Job Overview:
The Senior IT Assistant will play a crucial role in the administration and maintenance of IT systems at the UNESCO IITE. This position involves providing day-to-day IT support for workstations, servers, and the overall computing environment, including IP telephony and video conferencing systems. The Senior IT Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that all IT equipment is maintained and that staff members have the necessary applications for their work. The role requires close cooperation with the UNESCO Bureau for Digital Business Solutions (DBS) and other relevant services to implement effective IT solutions and support the diverse technical needs of users. The position also involves investigating and recommending new IT technologies and policies to enhance the IITE's operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior IT Assistant will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: ensuring effective desktop administration and server operations; delivering day-to-day IT support for workstations and servers; performing software distribution updates and scripting; coordinating with external service providers; maintaining IT equipment and ensuring proper operational workstations; implementing deployment and upgrade methods for computers and software; responding to technical hardware and software issues; liaising with DBS and other UNESCO services regarding IT needs; maintaining data security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and implementing disaster recovery policies; administering LAN and supporting network infrastructure; managing Linux-based web servers and WordPress websites; maintaining accurate inventory of IT assets; and performing other tasks as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess higher education in a relevant field. They should have at least four years of relevant experience in IT systems administration and maintenance support, including software solutions and website administration. Experience with Linux and Windows Server administration, including skills in package managers, bash scripting, OpenSSL, SSH, Active Directory, DNS, and proxy servers is required. Candidates should also demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to manage heavy workloads, and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
A higher education degree in a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background should ideally include coursework or training in computer sciences, information technology, or a related discipline that provides the necessary knowledge and skills for IT systems administration and support.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant work experience in IT systems administration and maintenance support. Candidates should have hands-on experience with various hardware, software, and networking systems, as well as experience in website administration and development. Familiarity with both Linux and Windows server environments is essential, along with experience in managing IT services and support.

Languages:
Fluency in both Russian and English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement ensures effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an advantage but are not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time assignment under the UNESCO Service Contract modality, which follows the official working hours of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education in Moscow. The initial contract duration is until December 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. A three-month probation period will be applied to the selected candidate. The estimated monthly salary for this position is approximately 160,000 RUB. UNESCO will also contribute to a pension plan and medical insurance, contingent upon proof of enrollment in relevant schemes. Service Contract holders are entitled to paid annual leave, sick leave, and other benefits. The recruitment process is open to both internal and external candidates, but it is specified that this recruitment is only open to nationals of the Russian Federation.
