The Senior Driver position is integral to the successful implementation of the Participation, Ownership, and Sustainable Progress for Economic Resilience (PROSPER) project, which focuses on local economic development in rural and indigenous communities in Belize. The role involves providing reliable and safe driving services for project officials, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of discretion and integrity. The Senior Driver will also be responsible for facilitating airport protocol services for high-level delegations and ensuring the proper maintenance and operation of office vehicles. This position requires a proactive approach to driving and vehicle management, contributing to the overall success of the project by ensuring that transportation needs are met efficiently and effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with the role and for ensuring effective communication and interaction with project staff and stakeholders.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience, specifically in driving roles. Candidates should have a proven safe driving record, demonstrating their ability to operate vehicles responsibly and safely. Experience with a UN agency, diplomatic, or international organization is highly regarded and may provide candidates with an advantage in understanding the specific requirements and protocols associated with such environments.
Languages:
Candidates must have excellent knowledge of English, which is essential for communication within the organization and with project stakeholders. A good working knowledge of Spanish is also required, as it may be necessary for interactions with local communities and officials. Knowledge of indigenous languages such as Q'eqchi and/or Mopan will be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to engage with local populations effectively.
Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension based on various factors including the availability of funds and the continuing need for the functions performed. The recruitment process is subject to specific local criteria, and the ILO may only offer contracts to individuals with valid residency status and work permits in Belize. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Driver will be responsible for a variety of duties including:
- Providing safe and reliable driving services for official purposes, ensuring the safety of passengers at all times.
- Greeting officials and visitors at the airport, assisting with immigration and customs formalities as necessary.
- Collecting and distributing mail, diplomatic pouch bags, documents, and other items as required.
- Maintaining accurate vehicle logs and preparing vehicle maintenance plans to ensure cost savings and efficient vehicle use.
- Conducting daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including checking tires, brakes, water levels, oil, and battery, and ensuring vehicles are clean and in good running condition.
- Performing minor repairs and coordinating major repairs as needed.
- Ensuring all required documents and supplies are available in assigned vehicles, including insurance, registration, and first aid kits.
- Informing the supervisor of any registration and insurance updates for office vehicles.
- Assisting office staff with filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores, as well as performing other relevant duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Completion of secondary school education.
- A valid and clean driving license is mandatory.
- A minimum of three years of relevant work experience with a proven safe driving record.
- Experience driving for a UN agency, diplomatic, or international organization is considered an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, as well as local roads and conditions.
- Skills in minor vehicle repair and knowledge of chauffeur protocol and courtesies.

- Basic computer skills for recording information in IT systems.
