Job Overview:
The Associate Banker role is situated within the EBRD's Casablanca Resident Office, specifically in the Financial Institutions Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region (SEMED) team. This position is crucial for supporting a variety of clients, including banks, non-bank financial institutions, microfinance institutions, leasing companies, and fintechs. The Associate Banker will engage in all phases of the project cycle, which encompasses origination, structuring, execution, implementation, and monitoring of projects with Participating Financial Institutions in Morocco. The role requires a proactive approach to due diligence, ensuring compliance with EBRD policies, and effective post-signing implementation. The Associate Banker will also contribute to business development and client management, thereby playing a vital role in the growth and success of the organization in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Banker will be responsible for a wide range of tasks under the guidance of an operation leader or senior banker. Key responsibilities include:
  • Structuring and Execution: Collaborate with project teams on transactions, ensuring thorough project structuring and execution. This involves engaging with client counterparts and consultants, conducting comprehensive due diligence, and preparing internal project documentation such as approval memoranda and financial models.
  • Portfolio Monitoring: Oversee the implementation and monitoring of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with agreements and Bank procedures. This includes assessing project progress, financial performance, and risk factors, as well as preparing monitoring reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Business Development: Assist in marketing and business development efforts, contributing to the growth of the EBRD's portfolio in the region. The Associate Banker will also have opportunities to develop transaction expertise and may assume greater responsibilities over time, potentially leading to a role as an operation leader on standard transactions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative and numerical skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Proficiency in credit analysis and understanding of local and international accounting principles is required. Candidates should also demonstrate computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office and spreadsheet applications, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English. A good command of French and/or Arabic is advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred, as it provides a deeper understanding of financial principles and practices. Additional professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are considered beneficial and enhance a candidate's profile for this role.

Experience:
Relevant experience in the financial industry is essential for this position. Candidates should have a background in investment or commercial banking, private equity, asset management, or auditing/financial consulting, ideally operating to international standards. Experience in covering or analyzing financial institutions is crucial, and familiarity with the MENA region, particularly in the financial sector, is advantageous. Practical experience in participating in financial institutions’ transactions throughout the project life cycle is also desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate complex financial environments effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the EBRD. A good command of French and/or Arabic is considered an advantage, as it facilitates communication with local stakeholders and enhances the ability to engage with clients in the region.
