Job Overview: The Data Clerk position is critical in supporting the Bundibugyo Virus Disease readiness and response activities in South Sudan. The incumbent will be responsible for accurate and timely data entry, cleaning, validation, filing, and reporting. This role involves maintaining up-to-date databases, trackers, line lists, dashboards, and routine reports that are essential for operational decision-making. The Data Clerk will work closely with the WHO Information and Data Management Officer and county teams to ensure that data related to alerts, investigations, training, and health facility preparedness is collected and organized effectively. Given the ongoing public health emergencies in South Sudan, including outbreaks and conflict, the Data Clerk's role is vital in ensuring that reliable data is available for effective response and readiness efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Data Clerk will perform a variety of duties under the supervision of the WHO Information and Data Management Officer. Key responsibilities include: receiving, registering, organizing, and entering data from approved reporting tools into WHO and Ministry of Health databases; maintaining daily zero-reporting and completeness trackers; checking submitted forms for completeness and consistency; supporting routine data cleaning and validation; maintaining accurate filing systems; updating operational dashboards and reports; preparing daily and weekly reporting summaries; supporting data collection during assessments and response activities; assisting users of mobile data-collection tools; ensuring data confidentiality and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security; participating in briefings and training activities; and performing other incident-specific duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess essential qualifications, including completion of secondary education supplemented by training in data entry, records management, information technology, statistics, or a related field. Desirable qualifications include a diploma or certificate in health information management, public health, or business administration. Candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Knowledge of data protection requirements and experience with health information systems are also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes the completion of secondary education, with additional training in relevant fields such as data entry, records management, or health information. A diploma or certificate in health information management or related areas is desirable, indicating a higher level of expertise in managing health data and information systems.
Experience: Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience in data entry, records management, or information management. Experience using spreadsheets and databases, as well as checking data for accuracy and maintaining organized records, is essential. Desirable experience includes supporting public health surveillance, outbreak response, or working with health programs, particularly in complex emergency settings such as South Sudan.
Languages: Expert knowledge of English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working in diverse communities and with various stakeholders in public health.
