The organization has established 14 Partnership Agreements and is focused on increasing these collaborations to enhance its impact in the region, particularly in providing cash-based interventions and developing protection networks.

Job Overview:
The Senior Protection Associate plays a crucial role in the UNHCR's mission by reporting to the Protection Officer or Senior Protection Officer and may supervise protection staff across various functions, including community services, registration, resettlement, and education. This position is pivotal in monitoring and ensuring adherence to protection standards and operational procedures in line with international norms. The Senior Protection Associate is responsible for coordinating effective protection responses to the needs of populations of concern (PoC), ensuring that protection methodologies are integrated into operational responses across all sectors. The role involves designing comprehensive protection strategies and representing the office in external engagements related to protection policy. A key aspect of this position is to ensure that PoC are actively involved in decision-making processes that affect their rights and solutions to their challenges. Building and maintaining effective relationships with communities, local authorities, and partners is essential for the success of this role, as is the ability to navigate complex protection environments characterized by high levels of violence and displacement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Protection Associate is tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, including staying informed about political, social, economic, and cultural developments that impact the protection environment. They must consistently apply international and national laws, as well as UN/UNHCR policies and standards. Key duties include providing guidance on protection issues, assisting in eligibility and status determination for PoC, and contributing to measures aimed at preventing statelessness. The Associate will also help develop child protection and education plans as part of the broader protection strategy. Managing individual protection cases, particularly those involving gender-based violence (GBV) and child protection, is a critical responsibility. The role requires the identification of durable solutions for PoC through voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement, and contributing to advocacy efforts with partners. Effective information management and participation in capacity-building initiatives for authorities and NGOs are also essential components of the role. The Senior Protection Associate must ensure compliance with global protection policies and standards, assist in prioritizing reception and counseling for PoC, and recommend payments for individual cases as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 2 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Desirable qualifications include training in Resettlement and Protection Learning Programs. Additionally, candidates should possess strong IT skills and be able to effectively utilize computer systems for data management and reporting.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a High School Diploma with significant relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as International Law, Political Science, or another relevant discipline. Certifications in international law or political science are considered essential for this role, as they provide the foundational knowledge necessary for effective performance in the position.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience for candidates with a High School Diploma, or 2 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree.
