Established in 1974, the organization began its humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle. Over the years, it has expanded its programs to various regions in Ethiopia, addressing the needs of children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it. The organization collaborates with international donors, local governments, and community-based organizations across seven program locations, aiming to ensure that every child grows up with love, respect, and Security.

Job Overview:
The Youth Empowerment Project Officer will play a crucial role in empowering young people by providing them with opportunities to gain work experience through apprenticeships, internships, and volunteering. This position involves designing, developing, managing, and implementing youth workforce development and Entrepreneurship activities. The officer will work closely with project team members, key partners, and stakeholders to formulate selection criteria for service recipients, implement innovative strategies for mobilizing youth, and provide Career Development training. The role also includes engaging with networks of youth support systems and collaborating with training providers to enhance the skills development of young people.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the formulation of selection criteria for service recipients (youth, women) and Design innovative strategies for identifying and mobilizing them.
  • Select and screen service recipients for the Skills Development programme.
  • Provide career development training and identify career paths for each service recipient.
  • Engage with networks of youth support systems for project planning and implementation.
  • Collaborate with the MERA officer to develop and measure youth skills development indicators.
  • Implement a learning agenda that promotes collaboration and adaptation of Positive Youth Development approaches.
  • Form partnerships with public and private training providers for technical and soft skills training.
  • Develop Terms of Reference for hiring consultants to design training modules on entrepreneurship and employability skills.
  • Follow up on the implementation of training modules and facilitate business skills training. 1
  • Support the establishment of Franchise Centers in collaboration with training institutions and private companies. 1
  • Provide individual and group-based Employment Training Services to targeted young people. 1
  • Assist youth in identifying community resources for vocational goals. 1
  • Provide ongoing coaching and peer support for youth. 1
  • Assist youth in preparing and submitting required paperwork. 1
  • Advocate for youth with disabilities and ensure inclusive training approaches. 1
  • Maintain relationships with training institutions, employers, and partners to meet project goals. 1
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual plans and reports according to organizational guidelines. 1
  • Ensure safeguarding measures are in place and report any incidents immediately.

Required Qualifications:
  • A/BSc in Entrepreneurship, Inclusive Business, Business Administration, Education, Curriculum, or related fields.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in youth care and development, education, or Community Development.
  • Experience in designing curriculum and training materials for young people.
  • Commitment to inclusive programming principles.
  • Understanding of national youth policy and employability.
  • Proven track record in facilitating training and working with youth and relevant stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a degree in a relevant field such as Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Education, or related studies. This educational background is essential for understanding the principles of youth empowerment and workforce development.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant experience in youth care and development, education, or community development. Experience in designing training materials and facilitating programs for young people is highly desirable. Familiarity with inclusive approaches and understanding of national youth policies will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the project area is an advantage, as it will facilitate better communication with the youth and stakeholders involved in the project.
