Job Overview:
The MHPSS Coordinator is tasked with designing and implementing the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) strategy for Medicos del Mundo in Ukraine. This role involves ensuring that the MHPSS interventions align with the organization's quality standards while providing Technical Support to operational teams. The coordinator will work closely with the Health Coordinator to integrate MHPSS into health activities, ensuring that mental health considerations are embedded in all projects. The position requires regular field visits to intervention zones, including Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhia, to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs. The MHPSS Coordinator will also be responsible for fostering partnerships and collaborations at both national and international levels to enhance the impact of MHPSS initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MHPSS Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Contributing to the Design and development of MdM's strategy in Ukraine, particularly in MHPSS.
  • Identifying and writing intervention proposals that align with the country strategy and technical framework.
  • Leading assessments to inform the development of MHPSS programs.
  • Establishing partnerships and collaboration strategies at the national level.
  • Providing technical supervision to staff and partners to ensure adherence to MdM standards.
  • Supporting the field team in developing protocols and referral mechanisms.
  • Planning and validating MHPSS materials for activities.
  • Innovating tools and approaches to improve access to MHPSS services.
  • Developing training objectives and content for various methodologies. 1
  • Contributing to advocacy efforts and communication strategies. 1
  • Monitoring and analyzing impact indicators to assess MHPSS results. 1
  • Participating in recruitment and training of MHPSS staff, ensuring their professional development. 1
  • Adapting to changing situations and responding to the needs of the community.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the MHPSS Coordinator position should possess the following qualifications:
  • A degree in psychology or psychiatry.
  • A master's degree in International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, or Project Management is desirable.
  • Training in gender issues and project cycle management is considered an asset.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Russian or Ukrainian is a significant advantage.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in using Office applications.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a solid academic background in psychology or psychiatry. A master's degree in relevant fields such as International Cooperation or Humanitarian Aid is preferred. Additional training in gender-based violence and project management will enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience working in diverse cultural contexts, with a strong understanding of the political, social, and cultural landscape of Ukraine being a significant asset. Knowledge of public mental health and integrated MHPSS intervention models is essential. Proven experience in planning and monitoring MHPSS programs, particularly in Emergency settings, is required. Strong skills in technical writing for proposals, reports, and advocacy materials are also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong written and spoken skills. Proficiency in Russian or Ukrainian is highly desirable and will be considered a major asset for the role.
