Job Overview:
The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Coordinator is tasked with designing and implementing the MHPSS strategy for Médicos del Mundo in the occupied Palestinian territory. This role involves ensuring that MHPSS activities are executed in accordance with MdM's quality standards, while also monitoring and evaluating these activities. The coordinator will provide Technical Support to both MdM and partner organizations, ensuring that protection mainstreaming is integrated into all programs. The position requires frequent travel to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, contingent on security conditions, to oversee the implementation of MHPSS initiatives and to support local teams in delivering effective mental Health Services. The MHPSS Coordinator will also play a crucial role in training and supervising MdM staff and partners, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality mental health support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess needs and ensure technical coherence of MdM’s MHPSS interventions, providing technical supervision for MdM staff and partners.
- Support field teams in developing and implementing protocols, programs, and referral mechanisms.
- Monitor quality and follow-up of MHPSS activities, ensuring adherence to MdM standards.
- Plan and validate Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for MHPSS activities.
- Integrate protection mainstreaming into MHPSS programs, focusing on vulnerable groups.
- Identify training needs and organize capacity-building initiatives for MHPSS staff.
- Develop training objectives and materials for various WHO methodologies and community-based programs.
- Collaborate with the Protection Officer to Design and implement protection strategies.
- Contribute to advocacy efforts and communication strategies for the MHPSS program. 1
- Coordinate with public and private actors and participate in humanitarian Coordination mechanisms. 1
- Identify and assess risks in the area of responsibility and suggest mitigation measures. 1
- Participate in Coordination Team meetings and represent MdM in relevant external meetings.
Required Qualifications:
- Academic background in psychology or psychiatry.
- Desirable qualifications include a Master’s degree in International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, or Project Management.
- Complementary training in clinical work, gender-based violence, and project cycle management is an asset.
- Certifications in WHO psychological interventions (mh-GAP, PM+, EASE) are preferred.
- Fluent English (written and spoken) is mandatory; Arabic is a significant asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a degree in psychology or psychiatry. A Master’s degree in relevant fields such as International Cooperation or Humanitarian Aid is desirable. Additional training in clinical work, gender-based violence, and project management will be considered advantageous.
Experience:
Candidates should have experience working in diverse cultural contexts, with knowledge of the political, social, and cultural landscape of Palestine being a significant asset. Familiarity with public mental health and integrated MHPSS intervention models is essential. Proven ability to plan and monitor MHPSS programs in response to the psychological impacts of violence and conflict is required. Strong skills in technical reporting and advocacy are also necessary.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable and considered a major asset for effective communication within the local context.
