Job Overview:
The International Finance Analyst (IFA) plays a crucial role within the International Finance Department at Mercy Corps, specifically focusing on the financial operations of European donor-funded projects across a regional portfolio of countries. The IFA is responsible for ensuring compliance with both internal and external financial policies and regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of Financial Reporting, grant management, and budgeting processes. The IFA will collaborate closely with country finance teams, program teams, and external stakeholders, including European donors and other NGOs, to provide technical financial support and ensure that financial reporting standards are met. The role also involves monitoring grant performance, preparing financial reports, and assisting with audits, making it essential for the IFA to possess strong analytical and communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The IFA's duties include serving as a review point for country-led proposal budgets, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines, and providing financial data and recommendations. The IFA will also track and monitor submitted awards and proposals, assist with the preparation of additional information for due diligence processes, and review financial clauses of contracts. In terms of project Financial Management, the IFA will Design and develop budgets, monitor grants through monthly reports, prepare required reports for donor agencies, and advise on budget modifications. The IFA will maintain effective communication with country offices regarding financial reporting and grant regulations, serve on Complex Programme Boards, and monitor grant-level cash flow. Additionally, the IFA will assist in preparing for audits, advise on audit queries, and support the implementation of action plans for audit findings. The IFA will also coordinate with peers to share knowledge, identify finance-specific knowledge needs, and provide Technical Support and training to country office finance staff.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a degree in Accounting or Finance, or be a part-qualified Accountant with relevant experience. Proficiency in computerized accounting packages and MS Office software, particularly Excel, is essential. Candidates should have business-level spoken and written English, with proficiency in a second language considered advantageous. Previous experience in finance or grant management, particularly within an international NGO, is preferred. Strong analytical skills, the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, and effective communication skills are also required.
Educational Background:
The position requires a degree in Accounting or Finance. Candidates who are part-qualified accountants or have relevant experience in finance will also be considered. A strong understanding of financial principles and practices is essential for success in this role.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have previous experience in finance or grant management, preferably within an international NGO context. Experience with computerized accounting systems and financial reporting is crucial. The candidate should also have a proven track record of working collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Languages:
Business-level spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in a relevant second language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

This position is full-time and may require international travel to the countries being supported.
