Job Overview:
The National Vice President of Funded Programs at the American Heart Association will play a pivotal role in enhancing the organization's ability to manage funded projects effectively. This position involves overseeing the full lifecycle management of funded projects, which includes pre-award planning, proposal review, and post-award administration. The VP will lead a team that provides operational expertise and compliance accountability for restricted funding received from various sources, including corporate partners, foundations, individual donors, and government agencies. The role requires a strategic approach to drive innovation in grants management, implement process improvements, and integrate advanced technical systems to enhance transparency and efficiency. The VP will also collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment with donor expectations and organizational goals, serving as a key liaison across various teams to optimize results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National VP, Funded Programs will be responsible for leading a team of professionals focused on both pre-award and post-award support for funded projects. Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the pre-award team to collaborate with fundraisers and implementers to secure restricted funding, overseeing budget development, proposal review, and gift agreement processes.
  • Managing the post-award team to ensure compliance with funding requirements, expense reporting, and financial accountability.
  • Directing operations of the government grants team, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures for complex government funding portfolios.
  • Fostering collaboration across departments to align with donor expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Serving as a liaison with key leadership across various departments to ensure alignment of goals and activities.
  • Providing leadership and oversight for organization-wide policies and compliance activities within the scope of responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of eight years of relevant experience (twelve years preferred). The ideal candidate will have experience in fundraising, grants administration, and restricted funding recognition and reporting, particularly within a non-profit environment. Strong operational and project management skills are essential, along with at least seven years of supervisory experience. Advanced skills in proposal and grant writing, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office, are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also necessary for this role.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position, with a preference for candidates who have additional qualifications or certifications related to grants management, fundraising, or project management. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education, particularly for candidates with extensive relevant experience in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of eight years of relevant experience, with a preference for candidates who have twelve years of experience in areas such as fundraising, grants administration, and project management. Experience in a non-profit environment is highly desirable, as is familiarity with government grants and compliance requirements. Candidates should also have a proven track record of managing teams and overseeing complex projects.

Languages:
