Job Overview:
The Family Support Specialist position is a permanent, part-time role (19.5 hours per week) based in Bankstown LGA, New South Wales, with the potential for extension until 30th June 202
  • The specialist will be part of the Play2Learn team, responsible for delivering playgroups across the Bankstown area. The role involves building family capacity through partnership and client-centered approaches, identifying additional assistance needs, and collaborating with team members to promote positive parenting and child wellbeing. The specialist will provide holistic case management to vulnerable clients, supporting their relationships and progress towards established goals. This position requires a strong commitment to advocating for children's rights and a passion for working with diverse communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Family Support Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Building family capacity by employing partnership, outcomes-based, strengths’ perspective, and client-centered approaches.
  • Identifying additional assistance and external services required by families, providing appropriate information, support, and referrals.
  • Collaborating with team members to deliver programs and support services, ensuring culturally respectful approaches to parenting and child and family wellbeing.
  • Providing holistic case management to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients, supporting relationships for favorable client outcomes.
  • Identifying strengths within families, establishing program goals, and reviewing clients' progress towards these goals.
  • Engaging with families from low socio-economic backgrounds and those who are socially or geographically isolated.
  • Utilizing trauma-informed practices and a strength-based approach when working with families.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Degree or Diploma qualification in a relevant field such as Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or Social Sciences, or have significant equivalent experience. Additionally, proven experience in working with low socio-economic families and those who are socially or geographically isolated is required. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in trauma-informed practice and a strength-based approach when working with families.

Educational Background:
