Job Overview:
The SRH / Maternal Health Specialist position is crucial for the effective implementation of UNFPA's activities in sexual and reproductive health and emergency obstetric care within the state office environment. The specialist will work collaboratively with state office staff, government entities, and implementing partners to plan, implement, and monitor programs aimed at enhancing sexual and reproductive health and rights. This role involves contributing to the formulation and execution of reproductive and maternal health programs, ensuring alignment with national development frameworks, and fostering synergies among various program units. The specialist will also oversee the implementation of the UNFPA work plan and ensure effective reporting on program activities. The position requires a proactive approach to establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders to address emerging issues and influence diverse groups towards achieving UNFPA's mandate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The SRH / Maternal Health Specialist will be responsible for providing quality technical support to UNFPA implementing partners in project planning, implementation, and monitoring of program activities. Key responsibilities include facilitating the work of consultants and experts, establishing cooperative relationships with government counterparts and civil society organizations, and addressing emerging sexual and reproductive health and rights issues. The specialist will contribute to achieving program results by supporting initiatives related to emergency obstetric and neonatal care, family planning, and the management of sexual and gender-based violence. Additionally, the role involves reporting on project progress, implementing knowledge management strategies, and ensuring compliance with UNFPA business processes. The specialist will also support the development of national capacities in sexual and reproductive health and participate in advocacy and resource mobilization efforts to enhance UNFPA's mandate.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Public Health, Medicine, Health Sciences, or a related discipline. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in sexual and reproductive and maternal health at the national level is required. Experience in program/project management, particularly in large multi-sector projects, is essential. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the national health system, quality of care, human rights in health services, and culturally sensitive programming. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management and analysis is also necessary.
Educational Background:
An advanced degree in Public Health, Medicine, Health Sciences, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as the broader health system.
Experience:
The position requires at least five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the field of sexual and reproductive and maternal health. Candidates should have experience in program/project management, including designing and appraising proposals and liaising with relevant project partners. A strong track record of technical leadership and the ability to produce high-quality results are essential.
Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is required for this position. Proficiency in these languages is critical for effective communication with stakeholders and for the successful implementation of programs.
