The Moroccan Red Crescent (Croissant-Rouge marocain) was established by royal decree in 1957 and is a voluntary relief association that acts as an auxiliary to civil and military authorities. It has a network of 8,565 volunteers across the country. The organization maintains its neutrality and independence while supporting state bodies, adhering to the principles and values of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Currently, the Moroccan Red Crescent is implementing a two-year response and recovery plan to assist those affected by the Marrakech-Safi earthquake that occurred in September 202
Job Overview:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support for the implementation of shelter activities in the Taroudant province. This includes conducting assessments, overseeing technical installations, preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and coordinating field activities. The role is crucial in ensuring that shelter solutions are effectively and efficiently delivered to those in need, particularly in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. The candidate will be expected to engage with local authorities and communities to validate beneficiary lists and ensure that the quality of installations meets the required standards. Additionally, the position involves supervising an assistant and ensuring daily activity follow-ups, as well as maintaining thorough technical documentation and photographic records of the work conducted.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for this position include conducting technical field visits to assess homes or sites, preparing plans, BoQs, and technical sheets for Technical Support Units (TSU), repairs, or improvements. The candidate will support the validation of beneficiary lists in collaboration with local authorities, monitor the quality of installations in coordination with contractors or communities, supervise the shelter assistant, and ensure daily follow-up on activities. Furthermore, the role requires maintaining proper technical and photographic documentation of the work and supporting the training of community masons on safe repairs. The candidate is also expected to actively work towards achieving the objectives of the Moroccan Red Crescent and adhere to the principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, performing any other tasks and responsibilities assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a university degree in civil engineering or an equivalent technical training, which is preferred. Previous experience with the Moroccan Red Crescent or community development organizations in Morocco is also preferred. The candidate must possess strong skills in team management, planning, and communication, and be capable of working under pressure while managing multiple activities simultaneously. Proficiency in Internet and Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, is essential.
Educational Background:
Candidates should have a university degree in civil engineering or equivalent technical training. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of shelter activities and ensuring that the candidate can effectively contribute to the organization's objectives in the field.
Experience:
The position requires 1 to 3 years of experience in construction projects, site supervision, or humanitarian work, which is mandatory. Experience in supervising construction sites, monitoring shelter activities, distributions, or cash programs is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have experience coordinating with local authorities and communities, which is essential for the successful implementation of shelter activities.
Languages:
Fluency in Moroccan Arabic, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Proficiency in English is preferred, as is proficiency in French and Tamazight. These language skills are important for effective communication with various stakeholders, including beneficiaries, local authorities, and team members.
Additional Notes:
The salary for this position is 10,000 MAD per month (gross). The contract duration is 6 months, with the possibility of renewal.
