Job Overview:
The Quality Assurance & Methodologies Adviser at the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) plays a crucial role in overseeing and guiding the methodologies used for collecting and analyzing displacement data. This position is essential for maintaining the quality and consistency of IDMC's datasets, which are vital for monitoring displacement caused by conflicts and disasters. The adviser will be responsible for advancing tools and methodologies that enhance the monitoring of displacement, ensuring that data is accurate, timely, and collected at appropriate spatial and temporal scales. The role also involves providing technical expertise in interpreting complex datasets and offering training and guidance to data coordinators to address specific monitoring challenges. The adviser will work closely with various teams to ensure methodological harmonization and the continuous improvement of monitoring practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Quality Assurance & Methodologies Adviser include overseeing the upload of detected displacement events, ensuring data accuracy and timeliness, and coordinating with the Global Monitoring Manager to implement and update monitoring guidance and standards. The adviser will conduct quality assurance of data and sources to maintain the consistency of reporting outputs, explore alternative methods to fill data gaps, and provide training and ongoing methodological guidance to Data Coordinators. Regular meetings will be organized with Data Coordinators to ensure methodological harmonization across regions. The adviser will also assist in developing monitoring tools and data platforms, documenting gaps in existing tools, coordinating improvements, and providing user feedback on information management tools and processes. Additionally, the adviser will support Data Coordinators in analyzing complex datasets to derive meaningful insights.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Quality Assurance & Methodologies Adviser position must possess a Master’s degree in international affairs, social sciences, displacement, migration, humanitarian or development studies, information science, or a related field. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in data analysis, development of methodologies, and managing quantitative data is required. The ideal candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of performing well under pressure, especially when facing tight deadlines. Previous experience in developing data standards, databases, and information management systems is essential, along with a proven track record of overseeing quality control of data and analyses. Advanced proficiency in Excel, databases, and online research tools for data capture, organization, and analysis is necessary, as well as advanced knowledge of Python and R programming languages. Fluent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are mandatory, while fluency in French or Spanish is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in fields such as international affairs, social sciences, displacement, migration, humanitarian or development studies, or information science. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of displacement data and methodologies, as well as for effectively guiding and training others in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in data analysis, development of methodologies, and managing quantitative data. This experience should include a strong background in quality assurance processes and oversight of data quality, as well as familiarity with the challenges associated with collecting and analyzing displacement data. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, showcasing their organizational skills and attention to detail.

Languages:
Fluent communication skills in English are mandatory for this position, both written and verbal. Additionally, fluency in French or Spanish is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the effectiveness of the role.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Geneve, Switzerland, but the duty station can also be in any country where NRC has an office, including EOR offices in France, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Spain, and Canada. The contract duration is for one year, with a travel requirement of approximately 5%. The salary and benefits are based on grade 8 of NRC’s National salary scale, along with accompanying terms and conditions.
