Job Overview:
The Urban Development and Housing Intern will be engaged in a full-time, non-paid internship for a duration of six months, based in Brazzaville. The intern will work under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer responsible for the Central Africa Sub Regional Office. The role emphasizes gaining practical experience in urban development, housing, spatial planning, and environmental management. The intern will assist in identifying community opportunities, developing project concepts, and supporting resource mobilization efforts. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about sustainable urban development and eager to contribute to UN-Habitat's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: assisting in identifying opportunities within communities and translating problems into project concepts; supporting the preparation of meetings with potential partners and donors; developing communication and outreach tools; tracking key indicators and monitoring reports; assisting in preparing layouts, engineering calculations, design drawings, and specifications; supporting fieldwork related to urban development and housing projects; collecting and integrating data; assisting with website and social media engagement; and performing miscellaneous assignments as needed. The intern will also be responsible for organizing workshops and making PowerPoint presentations during meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also required.

Educational Background:
The preferred areas of study for applicants include Architecture, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Community Mobilization, Public Health, and Geography. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program or have completed such programs.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should have a relevant academic background that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. The focus is on providing practical experience and exposure to the workings of the United Nations and urban development initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written French is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of English is desirable, and proficiency in another UN language would be an asset. Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively sharing information between the organization and stakeholders.
