Job Overview:
The National Consultant – Influenza Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in managing and coordinating influenza surveillance activities in the Maldives. This position involves overseeing project management tasks, administrative duties, and ensuring effective communication between various stakeholders, including the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The consultant will be responsible for implementing influenza active surveillance, managing data collection and analysis, and facilitating training workshops for national health workers. The role is vital in enhancing the Maldives' capacity to respond to influenza outbreaks and improve overall public health preparedness.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will supervise the Influenza Project Officer and Sentinel Site Surveillance Focal Point, ensuring that project objectives are met and reported to WHO and HPA supervisors. Responsibilities include implementing influenza active surveillance in designated hospitals, liaising with laboratory staff for data collection, managing and analyzing data from various sources, and updating Flu Mart platforms. The consultant will also assist in transporting samples, facilitating timely sharing of influenza samples, and organizing training workshops. Additional duties involve disseminating influenza medicine, meeting reporting requirements, and any other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Primary Health Care, Public Health, Data Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree in the same fields is desirable. Essential qualifications include a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a related field, with a preference for candidates who have worked with government institutions or civil society organizations. Experience in project management, data management, monitoring and evaluation, and coordination with health agencies is highly valued. Familiarity with WHO operations is an advantage.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health-related field, such as Primary Health Care or Public Health. A Master’s degree is considered an asset, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of public health issues and project management.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience, particularly in public health, project management, and data management. Experience working with government institutions and civil society organizations is preferred, as is familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes. Candidates with experience in coordinating health initiatives at the atoll and island level, particularly in collaboration with HPA and WHO, will be given priority.
Languages:
Fluent proficiency in both Dhivehi and English is mandatory, with expert knowledge in spoken and written forms of both languages. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication with local stakeholders and international partners.
Additional Notes:
The consultancy is expected to last for six months, with a remuneration of MVR 30,840 per month. The consultant will be required to travel as necessary for training and supervision related to the National Influenza Programme. This position is subject to local recruitment, and candidates must confirm their vaccination status as required by WHO before commencing work.
