Job Overview:
The Program Associate will play a crucial role in supporting Indian cities, particularly Bengaluru, in enhancing public spaces, transport, and streets as part of the Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge. This position involves close engagement with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civic groups, and professionals, to develop and implement projects aimed at improving the wellbeing of young children and their caregivers. The role requires a combination of research, data analysis, project management, and communication skills to effectively contribute to the transformation of urban environments into thriving, equitable, and low-carbon spaces. The Program Associate will be responsible for conducting surveys, engaging with partners, preparing project reports, and supporting capacity building initiatives, all while ensuring that the solutions are institutionalized within government agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Associate will handle a variety of responsibilities, including:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a post-graduate degree in Urban Design or Urban Planning, along with 3-4 years of relevant experience in designing streets and public spaces. Experience working with government partners or programs is preferred. A strong passion for enhancing the quality of life for children in Indian cities, a good understanding of public spaces and transport, and familiarity with sustainable development principles are essential. Candidates should also have the ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis related to public spaces, strong design skills, and proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Adobe, and Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of GIS is preferred, along with strong drawing and presentation skills.
Educational Background:
A post-graduate degree in Urban Design or Urban Planning is required for this position. This educational background should provide candidates with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to urban development projects focused on enhancing public spaces and transport systems.
Experience:
Candidates should have 3-4 years of experience in a relevant field, with a focus on delivering projects related to the design of streets and public spaces. Experience with government partners or programs is preferred, as it will provide valuable insights into the workings of urban development initiatives.
Languages:
Fluency in Telugu, Kannada, and English is preferred for this position, as effective communication with local stakeholders and partners is essential for the success of the projects.
Additional Notes:
The position is based in Bengaluru and is initially for a duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project requirements. The salary range for this position is between INR 9,50,000 to INR 12,50,000 CTC, commensurate with experience and skills. - Supporting project anchors in achieving planned outcomes and tasks under the project scope.
- Engaging daily with the City Government and partners to coordinate project goals.
- Coordinating onsite visits with team members, city agencies, and partners to monitor project implementation.
- Preparing technical documents, including data collection, surveys, analysis, design drawings, and reports.
- Leading focused group discussions with local government agencies, community groups, and NGOs.
- Organizing capacity building sessions for city officials and community groups.
- Supporting WRI India in other research or urban development projects as needed.
- Assisting in on-ground coordination of work in Warangal city, including government and partner engagement, data collection, and report preparation.
