Job Overview: The Project Manager will oversee the 'Supporting Climate Change Adaptation in Mongolia' project, which aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable herder communities against climate-related disasters. This role requires providing technical expertise in climate adaptation, ensuring effective execution of project components, coordinating stakeholder engagement, and exploring funding opportunities. The Project Manager will also act as the focal point for climate-related initiatives within the IFRC East Asia Country Cluster Delegation, ensuring that project activities align with best practices and international standards in climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction. The position demands a proactive approach to managing project activities, monitoring progress, and ensuring quality standards are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Management and Implementation: Collaborate with the Mongolian Red Cross Society (MRCS) to manage and implement project activities, ensuring adherence to the project proposal, work plan, and budget. Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion of activities.
Technical Expertise and Support: Maintain awareness of climate and environmental shifts, monitor policies and intervention measures, and provide technical expertise in climate adaptation. Develop and review project technical documents, ensuring alignment with international standards.
Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination: Serve as the focal point for climate initiatives, facilitating stakeholder engagement in events and building relationships with partners in East Asia. Represent IFRC in external meetings and ensure effective dissemination of project information.
Funding and Resource Mobilization: Explore funding opportunities for climate adaptation initiatives, coordinate with the Strategic Partnerships and Resource Mobilization team, and contribute to project proposal development.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement the project's monitoring and evaluation framework, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of project activities.
Capacity Building and Training: Organize training sessions on climate change adaptation and facilitate knowledge sharing among project staff and community members.
Logistics and Procurement: Assist in the procurement of goods and services for project activities, ensuring compliance with policies.
Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular progress reports and maintain accurate project records. Duties applicable to all staff include working towards the Secretariat's goals and adhering to Red Cross principles.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in climate change, environmental studies, disaster risk reduction, development studies, or a related field. Completion of relevant professional training courses in climate change adaptation, environmental sustainability, disaster preparedness, and project management for climate initiatives is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as climate change, environmental studies, disaster risk reduction, or development studies is required. Additional professional training in climate adaptation and related areas is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in project management, climate adaptation, or disaster risk reduction is required, preferably with an international organization or NGO. Candidates should have strong technical expertise in climate change adaptation and experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects. Proven capacity-building and training skills, along with the ability to work in a multicultural environment, are essential. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory, along with being a native speaker of Mongolian. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
Additional Notes: The position may involve frequent travel to project sites in Mongolia and requires a commitment to the principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent. The role is full-time and may involve working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team environment.
