Job Overview:
The Junior Program Associate will play a crucial role in the Road Safety & Urban Transport team at WRI India, based in Bengaluru. This position involves assisting in various street design and neighborhood planning projects aimed at enhancing road safety in Bengaluru and other cities. The associate will contribute to the provision of safe infrastructure, capacity building, and community awareness programs. The role requires collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including government departments and community organizations, to implement effective urban transport solutions. The associate will also engage in project-related data analysis, documentation, and coordination, ensuring that the team meets its objectives and deadlines. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Junior Program Associate will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Documentation and coordination with the Transport department, Public Works Department (PWD), Traffic Police, consultants, and other government offices related to road safety projects.
  • Reviewing and analyzing data received from the PWD and Transport department to inform project decisions.
  • Organizing events, workshops, webinars, and street audits to engage the community and stakeholders in road safety initiatives.
  • Providing research support to team members in the Sustainable Cities and Transport program.
  • Coordinating with internal and external partners to formulate reports and summaries.
  • Supporting primary data collection through site visits and compiling, analyzing, and visualizing data.
  • Designing and developing schematics and details for project presentations.
  • Preparing necessary drawings, reports, presentations, and graphics to communicate project progress and outcomes.
  • Assisting the team in the timely delivery of project activities as outlined in project plans.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in architecture or planning, or a Master’s degree in transport planning, landscape design, urban planning, or urban design. A foundational understanding of street design principles and guidelines is essential. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory, along with the ability to communicate research ideas clearly. Candidates should demonstrate analytical skills to interpret data from various sources and possess proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and Sketchup. Familiarity with Adobe suite and GIS is preferred, as is a general awareness of road safety and street design principles. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to collaborate effectively with diverse partners.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in architecture or planning, or a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as transport planning, landscape design, urban planning, or urban design. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of urban transport and road safety projects.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 0 to 2 years of work experience. This experience should ideally include exposure to street design principles and urban planning practices. Candidates with internships or relevant project work in urban transport or road safety will be viewed favorably, as they will have a better understanding of the practical applications of their academic knowledge.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, particularly in reading and writing, as effective communication is crucial for this role. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial in engaging with diverse communities and stakeholders in Bengaluru and other cities.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time, term hire position for a duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on project requirements. The salary for this position ranges from INR 7,50,000 to INR 9,40,000 CTC, commensurate with experience and skills.
