Job Overview:
The Climate, Economics & Finance (CEF) Program at WRI India is focused on integrated solutions that facilitate India’s low carbon transition while ensuring that this transition is equitable and just for its people and protects natural resources. The Program Associate will play a crucial role in developing a comprehensive GHG emissions inventory and emissions reduction scenario-building tool applicable at various governance levels. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience in data collection and analysis, and a solid understanding of climate change mitigation strategies across multiple sectors. The position requires excellent partner engagement and capacity-building abilities, as well as a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Associate will be responsible for developing an emissions reduction scenario-building tool that can be utilized across multiple governance tiers. This includes creating a GHG inventory and collecting both primary and secondary data for key economic sectors such as AFOLU, Energy, IPPU, and Waste, adhering to internationally accepted standards from credible sources. The role involves ensuring data accuracy through rigorous validation and verification processes, developing multiple GHG emissions reduction scenarios, and suggesting feasible and viable mitigation strategies. The associate will engage with partners throughout the emissions profiling and modeling process, conduct dialogues and workshops to gather data and insights, and produce detailed reports and presentations to share findings and recommendations. Additionally, the associate will conduct capacity-building workshops for local partners on GHG calculations and low-carbon strategies.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in environmental or climate science, economics, public policy, engineering, statistics, environmental planning, or related fields. A credible understanding of emission reduction methodologies in line with internationally accepted standards, such as the 2006 IPCC guidelines for national GHG inventories and the Global Protocol for Communities, is essential. The position requires a minimum of 2-4 years of full-time work experience in climate mitigation research roles, particularly related to mitigation and scenario-building tools or emissions inventory tools. Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis, as well as familiarity with various databases at the Gram Panchayat, District, ULBs, State, National, and International levels, is necessary. Demonstrated experience in engaging with diverse partners, including government, industry, and civil society, is also required, along with experience in developing capacity-building workshops or training programs.
Educational Background:
A postgraduate degree in relevant fields such as environmental or climate science, economics, public policy, engineering, statistics, or environmental planning is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of climate change mitigation and the development of effective strategies for emissions reduction.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2-4 years of full-time work experience in roles focused on climate mitigation research. This experience should include work related to mitigation and scenario-building tools or emissions inventory tools, demonstrating a solid understanding of the methodologies and practices involved in climate change mitigation.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as the role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it aids in engaging with local partners and stakeholders in various regions of India.
Additional Notes:
The position is for a duration of 1 year and is based in Chennai and Delhi. The salary range for this role is between 950,000 to 1,250,000 INR CTC per annum, commensurate with experience and skills.
