Job Overview: The Communication and Advocacy Officer is responsible for maintaining relationships with management and other communications specialists within the organization, as well as with external stakeholders such as government officials, civil society representatives, and media. The role involves planning and coordinating communication activities, supporting reporting efforts, and providing updates on activities. The officer will also support the Crisis Management Team and training activities in communications. This position is critical for building and managing partnerships, coordinating activities, and ensuring effective communication strategies are implemented to raise awareness and drive engagement with target audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including gathering insights from media monitoring, implementing communication strategies, drafting narratives and messaging, fostering relationships with media outlets, planning press events, acting as a spokesperson, creating compelling content, producing communications products, developing campaigns, coordinating strategic partnerships, delivering outreach strategies, creating content for media channels, updating policy and training materials, preparing reports, and analyzing communication strategies for effectiveness. The role requires a proactive approach to monitoring trends in communications and maintaining expertise in emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, critical thinking skills, creativity in content development, knowledge of digital design, and the ability to analyze data for decision-making. They should also incorporate gender perspectives in their work and ensure equal participation of women and men. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and value others' ideas and expertise.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Completion of programs in data analytics or related fields is an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in developing and implementing communications strategies is required. Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of media monitoring tools and risks to information integrity, as well as the ability to communicate complex matters to diverse audiences. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in French is required, along with knowledge of English. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while knowledge is rated as 'confident' in two of the four areas.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term limited position with an initial appointment period of one year, subject to availability of funds and budgetary approval. The position is open to nationals of the Republic of the Congo only, and candidates residing elsewhere may be considered at their own expense.
