Job Overview:
The Medical Assistant position is crucial within the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Abuja, Lagos, and Benin. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission or Chief Migration Health Officer, and will be responsible for providing essential information related to health assessment programs and other IOM services to migrants. The role requires flexibility as the Medical Assistant may be assigned to either the reception and data processing unit or the call centre. The position demands a proactive approach to managing tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that migrants receive timely and accurate information regarding their health assessments and related services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Assistant will have a diverse range of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Providing information to migrants regarding health assessments via phone;
  • Registering migrants in the IOM database, scheduling and confirming medical appointments, and communicating messages for medical staff and beneficiaries;
  • Preparing master lists of migrants scheduled for health assessments and submitting them to relevant service providers;
  • Maintaining daily statistics related to health assessments and updating records;
  • Contributing to customer satisfaction evaluation management;
  • Performing data processing activities such as explaining the registration process to applicants, checking identities, entering biodata into the appropriate platform, taking photos, and printing necessary documents;
  • Receiving completed medical examination forms and updating the database;
  • Preparing and packaging medical files during mobile health assessment missions;
  • Transmitting completed medical forms and documents to partners; 1
  • Filing incoming and outgoing correspondence related to medical issues; 1
  • Checking and photocopying bank deposit slips; 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a University Degree with at least two years of relevant working experience, or a Secondary School Diploma with at least four years of relevant experience. A certificate in IT or data entry is considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should have experience in computer data entry, customer care, and knowledge of medical terminology. Previous experience with NGOs or international organizations is also beneficial. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Power BI and programming languages like SQL is advantageous, as well as experience with Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRs).

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a University Degree from an accredited institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, or a Secondary School Diploma with significant relevant experience. Candidates with additional certifications in IT or data entry will have an advantage in the selection process.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have experience in computer data entry, elaboration, and analysis, preferably in a medical or busy institutional environment. Knowledge of customer care and medical terminology is essential, along with previous secretarial and archival experience. Experience working with NGOs or international organizations is a plus, as is familiarity with healthcare-specific systems and data management principles.

Languages:
Fluency in English and a local language is mandatory for all applicants, both oral and written. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Nigeria will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable.
