Job Overview:
The Radiologic Technologist position is crucial within the IOM Health Assessment Programme, where the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting chest X-ray screenings for refugees and immigrants. This role requires adherence to international radiographic standards and the technical instructions of resettlement countries. The Radiologic Technologist will work under the supervision of senior medical staff and will be expected to ensure high-quality imaging while maintaining patient safety and comfort. The position involves not only technical skills in radiography but also effective communication with patients and collaboration with medical professionals to ensure accurate and timely health assessments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Capture high-quality chest X-ray images as per physician or radiologist requests, ensuring compliance with IOM and international standards.
  • Provide clear explanations of the X-ray procedures to applicants, addressing any questions they may have.
  • Prepare examination rooms and equipment, ensuring proper identification checks and accurate data entry into CR/DR machines.
  • Implement appropriate radiographic techniques and radiation protection measures during X-ray procedures, including the use of lead shielding for pregnant women.
  • Process digital images, assess their quality, and repeat as necessary, while promptly reporting critical information to medical staff.
  • Maintain high standards of quality in the Radiology Unit through effective use of techniques and adherence to technical requirements.
  • Ensure radiation safety for all individuals involved by following established protocols and regularly monitoring radiation exposure.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance checks on X-ray machines and coordinate maintenance with service providers.
  • Streamline workflow in the Radiology Unit by improving standard operating procedures and ensuring efficient data entry. 1
  • Manage daily worklists, verify applicant identities, and upload digital images to the e-Medical website. 1
  • Liaise with radiologists and Teleradiology Centers for image interpretation and report generation. 1
  • Uphold infection control measures and maintain a clean working environment. 1
  • Propose enhancements to improve the quality and efficiency of radiological procedures. 1
  • Undertake any additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Radiologic Technology from an accredited institution, with a valid license to practice radiography where applicable. Knowledge of radiographic techniques, safety protocols, and quality management processes is essential. Familiarity with digital imaging systems and radiology information systems is also required. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, as well as proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Radiologic Technology is required, with accreditation from recognized institutions listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The educational background should align with the national regulations governing the practice of radiography in the respective country.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of experience for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and five years for those with a Diploma in radiography, specifically in performing chest X-rays. Candidates should have a solid understanding of radiographic procedures, safety measures, and quality management processes. Experience in health assessment programs and familiarity with digital imaging technology are highly advantageous.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of French and Spanish is considered an asset. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and oral assessments to ensure effective communication within the organization and with applicants.
