The HeartCorps Service Member position is a full-time service role that focuses on advancing health equity in rural areas, specifically through the lens of cardiovascular health. The service member will be stationed at Desert Sage Health Center in Mountain Home, ID, starting May 19, 202
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the HeartCorps Service Member include: serving full-time (41.25 hours per week), delivering health education on topics such as cardiovascular disease, nutrition, and chronic disease management; assisting with public health surveys by recruiting participants and tracking data; planning and conducting local health workshops, health fairs, and community conversations; supporting community members in Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring; hosting Hands-Only CPR demonstrations; engaging with local organizations to develop resources for chronic disease interventions; and actively participating in AmeriCorps orientation and member development meetings. The service member will play a crucial role in raising awareness about health issues and facilitating access to health resources within the community.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the HeartCorps Service Member position must be United States citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents, at least 18 years old, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. They must have reliable transportation to the host site and community activities, maintain a valid driver's license, and meet minimum automobile liability insurance requirements. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential, along with a customer-focused and solution-oriented mindset. Candidates must also pass the National Service Criminal History Check, which includes checks against the National Sex Offender Public website, state criminal history records, and a fingerprint-based FBI check. While experience as a health aide or coursework in public health is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. While not mandatory, candidates with coursework or experience in public health, health communications, health promotion, or health sciences may have an advantage in the selection process. This educational foundation will help candidates understand the health topics they will be addressing in their service.
