Job Overview:
The HeartCorps Service Member position is a full-time role that offers a unique opportunity to gain professional experience in public health while contributing to the advancement of equitable health outcomes in the community. The service member will begin their role on May 19, 2025, at the Bureau Putnam Marshall Health Department in Princeton, IL. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about public health and community service, and it involves engaging with community members to provide education and support on heart health topics. The service member will work closely with local organizations and health departments to facilitate health education workshops, assist with public health surveys, and promote healthy behaviors within the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The HeartCorps Service Member will typically serve full-time from Monday to Friday, totaling 41.25 hours per week, with some flexibility for evening or weekend hours as needed. Key responsibilities include delivering health education to patients and community members, assisting them in navigating care and community resources related to heart health, and conducting public health surveys. The service member will also plan and conduct local health skill-building workshops, health fairs, and community conversations to raise awareness about health issues. Additionally, they will support community members in blood pressure self-monitoring and host Hands-Only CPR demonstrations. Engaging with local organizations to develop resources for chronic disease interventions and participating in AmeriCorps orientation and training sessions are also essential duties of this role.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the HeartCorps Service Member position must be United States citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents, at least 18 years old, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. They must have reliable transportation to commute to the host site and community activities, maintain a valid driver's license, and meet the minimum automobile liability insurance requirements. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential, along with a customer-focused and solution-oriented mindset. Candidates must also satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria, which includes a nationwide check of the National Sex Offender Public website, state criminal history record check, and a fingerprint-based check of the FBI criminal history record database. While experience as a health aide or coursework in public health, health communications, health promotion, or health sciences is helpful, it is not a strict requirement.
Educational Background:
