Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at UNDP Bahrain is designed to provide support in various programmatic and operational activities. The intern will assist in the implementation of program activities, conduct research, and help with documentation and reporting. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about the operations of a UNDP country office and the broader UNDP corporate environment. The intern will engage in tasks such as facilitating workshops, managing digital content and social media, and performing administrative duties. This position is ideal for individuals interested in international development and looking to gain practical experience in a dynamic international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • RR Office: Production of slide decks for communication with counterparts and HQ, event organization support, drafting required documents, conducting background research, maintaining a contact list and database of Bahrain contacts, and supporting other ad hoc activities.
  • Programme Unit: Assisting in the implementation of program activities, conducting research, data collection, and documentation, drafting concept notes and reports, tracking project progress, and compiling updates for reporting.
  • Research and Analysis: Conducting research on thematic areas such as sustainable development and governance, preparing background briefs, and summarizing key policy documents.
  • Administrative and Logistical Support: Organizing meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations, drafting meeting minutes, and maintaining organized records of program-related documents.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Supporting communication with government counterparts and civil society, preparing outreach materials, and assisting in engagement strategies.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Supporting data collection and analysis for program monitoring, drafting periodic reports, and project summaries.
  • Communications and Knowledge Management: Developing social media content, maintaining an updated repository of program documents, and ensuring coherence with UNDP’s Communication Plan.
  • Other Duties: Providing additional support as needed by the Programme Operations Unit, including digital content management and IT support.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (master’s or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (bachelor’s or equivalent);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. The field of study should be relevant to international development, international relations, law, economics, business and public administration, IT, digital media, graphic design, or equivalent.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in a relevant postgraduate degree program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree. Candidates should have a background in fields such as International Development, International Relations, Law, Economics, Business Administration, IT, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or related areas. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with graphic design tools are also beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a foundational understanding of international development and related fields. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in working within an international organization and possess good analytical skills for data gathering and research. Experience in organizing events or workshops, as well as familiarity with social media management, will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English (reading, speaking, and drafting) is required for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to UNDP's mission effectively.

Additional Notes:
The internship is designed to be a full-time position, although flexibility is allowed for educational commitments. Interns are expected to cover their own expenses related to travel, accommodation, and subsistence. A stipend will be provided to help cover basic daily expenses if the intern is not financially supported by any institution. Interns must also provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan and are not eligible for employment with UNDP during the internship period.
