Job Overview:
The National Programme Coordinator will oversee the project titled 'Ending the Scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Sorcery Accusation Related Violence in Papua New Guinea.' This role involves ensuring that survivors of GBV and SARV have access to quality support services and that preventive measures are in place to foster positive social norms. The coordinator will manage the project in collaboration with national and sub-national government agencies, civil society organizations, and academic institutions, ensuring that the project aligns with UNFPA's goals and the ICPD policy agenda. The position requires a proactive approach to adapt to changing priorities and to build partnerships that support the project's objectives. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing the project over a four-year period, focusing on achieving the desired outcomes in various provinces of Papua New Guinea.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Programme Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the project, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Key duties include overseeing the management of the project program, monitoring progress, and advising UNFPA Senior Management on socio-economic and political conditions affecting the project. The coordinator will lead the formulation of annual work plans, guide implementing partners, and analyze reports to recommend necessary actions. Additionally, the coordinator will engage in policy dialogue with government counterparts and advocate for the inclusion of the ICPD agenda in national strategies. The role also involves establishing partnerships with various stakeholders, contributing to resource mobilization efforts, and ensuring effective office management and leadership. The coordinator will foster a culture of accountability and transparency within the team, promoting a motivated workforce and identifying training needs.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Social Sciences, such as Gender/Women’s Studies or Community Development, or equivalent qualifications in a directly related discipline. A minimum of seven years of experience in program/project coordination is required, with at least five years of experience specifically in Gender/GBV/harmful practices, particularly with women, adolescents, and youth. Experience working in Papua New Guinea or the Pacific region is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Master's degree in Social Sciences, Gender/Women’s Studies, Community Development, or a related field. This advanced degree is essential for understanding the complexities of gender-based violence and the social dynamics at play in Papua New Guinea.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of experience in program or project coordination, with a strong emphasis on gender issues and working with vulnerable populations. Experience with UN agencies, particularly UNFPA, is considered an advantage.
