Job Overview:
The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Sub-Sector Coordinator will play a crucial role in addressing the needs of women and girls affected by GBV in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. This position involves leading the GBV Sub-Sector coordination, which includes over 30 member organizations such as UN agencies, international NGOs, and local NGOs. The coordinator will be responsible for ensuring effective coordination of GBV prevention and response efforts, strengthening community-based programming, and ensuring access to quality multi-sector GBV response services for survivors. The role requires a deep understanding of the humanitarian context, particularly the challenges faced by Rohingya refugees and host communities, and the ability to advocate for and implement effective GBV interventions. The coordinator will also work closely with other sectors, including Child Protection and Health, to integrate GBV-related actions into their plans and promote awareness among non-GBV specialists.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GBV Sub-Sector Coordinator will be responsible for establishing and reinforcing inter-agency coordination mechanisms, facilitating communication between national and sub-national GBV coordination groups, and representing the GBV Working Group in various meetings. They will lead technical assessments, develop training materials, and provide technical support for advocacy and policy documents addressing GBV. The coordinator will also facilitate the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for GBV response, map institutional response capacities, and develop a multi-sectoral prevention and response plan. Capacity development of GBV working group members and ensuring awareness of relevant guidelines and standards will also be key responsibilities. Additionally, the coordinator will engage in monitoring and reporting on GBV trends and patterns, document best practices, and write monthly reports on progress against work plan outputs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in gender studies, humanitarian affairs, human rights, law, social work, public health, development studies, international relations, or related social science disciplines. They should have at least 7 years of experience working on gender-based violence, with a minimum of 3 years in a humanitarian context. Experience leading inter-agency coordination mechanisms and a strong understanding of how GBV manifests in humanitarian settings are essential. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of the international humanitarian architecture, including the Cluster System, and possess strong self-management, emotional intelligence, and negotiation skills.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree is required, with a specialization in areas such as gender studies, humanitarian affairs, human rights, law, social work, public health, development studies, international relations, or other related social science disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of GBV in humanitarian settings and for effectively leading coordination efforts.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in the field of gender-based violence, with at least 3 years of that experience in a humanitarian context. This experience should include leading inter-agency coordination mechanisms and working with a diverse range of stakeholders. A strong awareness of the manifestations of GBV in humanitarian settings and the ability to develop context-specific prevention and response actions are critical for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNFPA and among international stakeholders. Knowledge of other official UN languages is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of partners and stakeholders.
