Job Overview: The WASH Officer- Electromechanical Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective planning and quality implementation of WASH activities in the Afar region of Ethiopia. This position involves providing technical support for the development of WASH programming, focusing on the operation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment and sanitation facilities. The officer will collaborate closely with project officers and assistants to ensure timely delivery of quality WASH programs and assist in the overall planning and design of future projects. The role requires a strong understanding of electromechanical systems and the ability to integrate them into WASH infrastructure effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The WASH Officer- Electromechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing electromechanical systems for WASH infrastructure, preparing technical designs and specifications, and overseeing the installation and maintenance of these systems. Specific duties include developing work schedules, ensuring quality and adherence to timelines, conducting site assessments, and maintaining documentation of project activities. The officer will also engage with community representatives to promote ownership of WASH systems, advise on procurement needs, and provide technical support to contractors and project teams. Additionally, the officer will prepare and submit reports to the WASH Project Manager, highlighting project progress and challenges, and represent the organization in WASH sector meetings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 3 years of experience in monitoring and supervising WASH projects, particularly in electromechanical engineering, is required. Strong knowledge of WASH infrastructure projects, report writing skills, and proficiency in technical drawing software and project management software are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to manage diverse activities, and effective communication skills.
Educational Background: A university degree in a relevant engineering field is mandatory. This includes disciplines such as Hydraulic Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Civil Engineering. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of engineering as they relate to WASH infrastructure.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in monitoring and supervising WASH projects, with a specific focus on electromechanical engineering.
