Job Overview: The WASH Officer-PHP position is crucial for the successful implementation of hygiene and sanitation promotion activities within the WASH project framework. The officer will work closely with the WASH Project Manager to ensure that all activities are executed according to the established plans and guidelines. This role involves significant fieldwork, with approximately 80% of the time spent in the field overseeing hygiene and sanitation initiatives. The officer will be responsible for developing detailed implementation plans, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely execution of activities. They will also engage with community members, train hygiene promoters, and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of interventions. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a complex environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The WASH Officer-PHP will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: collaborating with the WASH Project Manager to identify and select community outreach agents; developing and monitoring implementation plans for hygiene and sanitation activities; organizing training sessions for hygiene promoters and sanitation monitors; conducting baseline assessments and analyzing results; overseeing the dissemination of hygiene messages; providing technical guidance to field staff; monitoring hygiene conditions in the project area; establishing relationships with government authorities and stakeholders; collecting and analyzing reports on hygiene activities; supporting solid waste disposal efforts; engaging in WASH NFI distribution; and representing the organization in external engagements. The officer will also be expected to perform additional tasks as assigned by the line manager.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in monitoring and supervising WASH projects, with a strong background in hygiene and sanitation promotion. A university degree in Public Health or Environmental Health Science is required. Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts is essential, along with strong report writing and computer skills, particularly in word processing and spreadsheets. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate strong organizational, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and manage diverse activities is crucial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in Public Health, Environmental Health Science, or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of WASH programs and effectively implementing hygiene and sanitation initiatives in the field.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least 3 years of relevant experience in monitoring and supervising WASH projects.
