Job Overview:
The Logistics Officer position at WFP involves supervising logistics operations in Chittagong, leading a team to execute supply chain activities, and enhancing service provision solutions. The role requires effective technical coordination at Bhasanchar operations, ensuring compliance with logistics policies and WFP standards. The Logistics Officer will contribute to the development of logistics plans, manage logistics projects, and ensure timely delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries. This position is crucial for maintaining the integrity of transport information, managing warehouse operations, and ensuring compliance with WFP's operational procedures. The Logistics Officer will also be responsible for capacity building of WFP staff and partners, ensuring efficient delivery of food assistance, and coordinating with various stakeholders to optimize logistics operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Developing logistics plans and processes in compliance with WFP standards.
  • Managing logistics projects and day-to-day operations to ensure timely delivery of WFP cargo.
  • Collecting and analyzing data to recommend actions for improving local logistics operations.
  • Ensuring the integrity of transport information and commodity tracking.
  • Implementing warehouse procedures and managing inventory effectively.
  • Identifying suitable warehouses and ensuring availability of necessary equipment.
  • Maintaining compliance with warehouse management documentation.
  • Assisting in updating transporters and vendors lists for cost-effective delivery.
  • Managing Food Transfer Cost (FTC) and project budgetary reviews. 1
  • Coordinating with program sections to establish effective supply chain processes. 1
  • Monitoring service provision and ensuring quality standards are met. 1
  • Building relationships with UN agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners. 1
  • Preparing for emergency logistics responses. 1
  • Liaising with port authorities for cargo dispatches. 1
  • Supervising logistics staff and supporting other offices as needed. 1
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters) in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to maintain effective working relationships. A positive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to handle workloads are also essential for this role. Knowledge of WFP logistics policies and procedures is advantageous.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Masters) in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to manage logistics operations effectively.

Experience:
Candidates should have a total of five years of working experience, with at least three years of professional experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of logistics operations and for effectively managing projects and teams within the WFP framework.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory, along with being a native speaker of Bangla. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.

This position is a Service Contract with a duration of 7 months, based in Chattogram, Bangladesh. It is specifically open to Bangladeshi Nationals.
