Job Overview:
The Program Consultant, Health Care position is a critical role within the American Heart Association, focusing on improving care for patients with cardiovascular disease and stroke. This position involves working closely with multiple healthcare sites to educate and empower them to enhance their treatment protocols in alignment with clinical guidelines. The consultant will engage with various healthcare entities, including hospitals and outpatient settings, to implement and deliver program services that include data collection, decision support tools, and quality improvement consultations. The role requires building strong relationships with healthcare professionals and stakeholders to facilitate program participation and optimize the value of the services provided. The consultant will also document activities and communicate regularly with the Director of Health Care Quality to ensure that all tasks are completed on time, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve program success.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Program Consultant include:
  • Engaging with clients at hospitals, healthcare systems, post-acute facilities, and EMS organizations to implement and deliver program services.
  • Educating healthcare teams on compliance issues and facilitating program participation.
  • Developing relationships with physician champions and key stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Collaborating with state health departments and regional authorities to improve cardiovascular care systems.
  • Documenting activities in customer relationship management tools and tracking progress on initiatives.
  • Communicating regularly with the Director of Health Care Quality to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to ensure the success of the programs implemented.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience. Experience in an acute care hospital setting, particularly in clinical quality or process improvement projects, is essential. Familiarity with Systems of Care work is also required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in advanced PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, and possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory, and the ability to travel up to 10% for local and overnight stays is necessary.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position, and equivalent work experience may be considered. Candidates with certifications such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or Certified Health Education Specialist, or those with a clinical degree, are preferred. The educational background should ideally include training or coursework related to healthcare quality improvement and data management.

Experience:
The position requires at least 3 years of relevant work experience, specifically in an acute care hospital environment or in a national cardiac or stroke clinical quality improvement program.
