Job Overview:
The Program Consultant, Health Care position is crucial for the American Heart Association's mission to improve care for patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases and strokes. This role involves implementing quality programs across multiple healthcare settings, including hospitals and outpatient facilities. The consultant will engage with clients to educate them on best practices, facilitate compliance, and optimize program participation. The consultant will also document activities and communicate progress with the Director of Health Care Quality, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and that the program meets its objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Program Consultant include:
  • Implementing quality improvement programs aimed at enhancing care for cardiovascular disease and stroke patients.
  • Engaging with clients in various healthcare settings to deliver program services, including data collection and quality improvement consultation.
  • Collaborating with hospital teams to identify compliance issues and facilitate program participation.
  • Building relationships with physician champions and key stakeholders to drive program success.
  • Working with state health departments and regional authorities to improve cardiovascular care systems.
  • Documenting activities in customer relationship management tools and reporting on account interactions.
  • Communicating regularly with the Director of Health Care Quality to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Traveling up to 10% for local and overnight stays as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience, along with at least three years of relevant work experience. Experience in an acute care hospital setting, particularly in clinical quality or process improvement projects, is essential. Familiarity with Systems of Care work is also required. Proficiency in advanced PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is necessary, along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position, although equivalent work experience may be considered. Candidates with a clinical degree or certifications such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or Certified Health Education Specialist are preferred.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience, particularly in clinical quality or process improvement within an acute care hospital or a national cardiac or stroke clinical quality improvement program. Experience in collaborative learning groups is also beneficial.

Languages:
