Job Overview: The Communication Officer will play a crucial role in the GoM-LME Project Coordination Unit (PCU), focusing on the communication priorities, outputs, and activities of the project. This position requires collaboration with the Project Coordinator and other staff to ensure effective dissemination of project information across various media platforms. The Communication Officer will support the delivery of the project’s Component 4, which emphasizes Monitoring, Evaluation, and Knowledge Management. The role involves creating communication materials, managing project visibility, and ensuring compliance with UNOPS communication standards. The officer will also engage with local stakeholders and community members to promote inclusive participation and gender equity in project activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Preparing regular updates on project progress and ensuring clear communication of key outcomes to stakeholders.
Creating data visualizations to simplify complex M&E data for diverse audiences.
Maintaining a centralized archive of M&E reports and communication materials.
Developing engaging communication materials to showcase project activities.
Reviewing and implementing a regional communication strategy tailored to different stakeholders.
Contributing to the update of the Ocean Health Index factsheet.
Facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among project participants.
Supporting the development of a project website that adheres to IW:LEARN guidelines.
Enhancing visibility for twinning activities and supporting the creation of visibility content. 1
Developing outreach materials and ensuring compliance with GEF and UNOPS guidelines. 1
Performing any other communications activities as required by the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with an additional two years of relevant experience may be accepted. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in managing communications, external relations, or advocacy work is required. Experience in producing analytical reports and communications products, as well as developing and implementing communications strategies, is essential. Familiarity with the development and environmental sectors, particularly in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean, is considered an asset. Experience working with UNOPS or similar organizations is also advantageous.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates should have a strong foundation in communication principles and practices, as well as an understanding of the environmental and development sectors.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in managing communications, external relations, or advocacy work. Additional Notes: This is a home-based position with occasional office visits required for activities needing communication support. The contract is a retainer national vacancy for twelve months, with a maximum of 220 working days. The incumbent must be a national of Mexico or possess a valid residence permit in the country. The contract type is an Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) at the ICS 9/LICA 9 level, with the possibility of extension based on budget and performance. The contract specifies a unit price per day worked, with no minimum working days guaranteed, and payment will be made only after work completion.
