Job Overview:
The Clinical Coordinator for Obstetric Fistula will play a crucial role in addressing the significant health issue of obstetric fistula in South Sudan, where an estimated 60,000 women are affected. This position involves overseeing the implementation of comprehensive programs aimed at preventing and treating obstetric fistula, which is a common morbidity among women of reproductive age in the country. The coordinator will work closely with hospital management, professional associations, and various stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of clinical care, rehabilitation, and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support for fistula patients. The role requires a strong commitment to ethical standards and the ability to manage resources effectively while delivering high-quality program results. The coordinator will also be responsible for liaising with national and state health ministries to strengthen the systems for obstetric fistula prevention and treatment, in line with UNFPA's goal to eradicate fistula by 2030.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Liaising with hospital management to oversee all fistula program activities, ensuring proper maintenance of facilities and use of medical supplies.
  • Collaborating with professional associations to promote effective management of obstetric fistula.
  • Providing technical leadership to ensure quality holistic care for fistula patients, including clinical care and psychosocial support.
  • Conducting screenings, clinical examinations, and routine laboratory tests for patients with complicated obstetric fistula.
  • Performing surgical repairs and reconstruction for obstetric fistula patients, along with necessary post-operative care.
  • Advising and supervising the surgical team to maintain high standards of treatment.
  • Coordinating with partners to support treatment and training of surgical teams.
  • Ensuring that medical care adheres to ethical guidelines and FIGO standards.
  • Collaborating with implementing partners on outreach and awareness activities. 1
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and contributing to the National Fistula database. 1
  • Developing relationships with strategic partners, donors, and local authorities to maximize support for the program. 1
  • Representing UNFPA at relevant conferences and sharing research and policy briefs. 1
  • Providing mentorship to national obstetricians and gynecologists. 1
  • Reporting on outcomes and lessons learned from the program. 1
  • Performing other related tasks as assigned by the UNFPA Representative.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Medical Doctor degree with a Postgraduate Degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology and/or Surgery. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field is required, including specialized training in obstetric fistula management and at least 3 years of experience treating obstetric fistula. Candidates must provide proof of training and/or certification to independently conduct surgical treatments for obstetric fistula. Experience in handling obstetric fistula cases in culturally similar contexts to South Sudan is highly desirable. The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines with limited resources is essential.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Medical Doctor degree, complemented by a Postgraduate Degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology and/or Surgery. This educational background is critical for ensuring that the Clinical Coordinator has the necessary medical knowledge and skills to address the complexities of obstetric fistula treatment and management.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the medical field, with at least 3 years specifically focused on treating obstetric fistula. This experience should include specialized training in obstetric fistula management, demonstrating the candidate's capability to handle complex cases and provide high-quality care to patients.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an added advantage, and proficiency in another UN official language is also beneficial.
