Job Overview:
The consultancy role involves supporting the UNFPA in conducting a cross-national 'Youth Reproductive Choices Survey' aimed at understanding the reproductive aspirations and choices of young people aged 15-40 years. The survey will be conducted online across approximately 50 countries, exploring various factors influencing reproductive choices, including socioeconomic variables. The consultant will be responsible for designing survey questions, liaising with an implementing company, analyzing results, and producing a comprehensive report summarizing the findings. The preliminary results will be presented at the Second World Social Summit for Development in Qatar in November 2025, with a potential extension of the consultancy into 2026 for finalizing the report based on feedback.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake the following duties:
  • Collaborate with the UNFPA survey team to finalize the survey research proposal.
  • Assist in selecting an appropriate survey implementing company.
  • Design and develop survey questions focusing on fertility aspirations, barriers to reproductive choices, and general life concerns among young people.
  • Work with the survey company to ensure adherence to objectives, technical issues, and timelines.
  • Implement a pilot survey, analyze results, and make necessary amendments to the questionnaire.
  • Analyze survey results and prepare a presentation for the Second World Social Summit.
  • Produce a final report of the survey findings, including data visualizations.
  • Advise the UNFPA team on future uses and dissemination of the survey results.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in developing survey questions and conducting quantitative analysis related to young people's fertility aspirations and behaviors.
  • Subject matter expertise in fertility and family demography, human rights, and population dynamics.
  • Proven experience in survey design and quantitative data analysis, including data visualization.
  • Experience in coordinating complex research projects and authoring reports for policymakers.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
  • A strong interest in development work and alignment with the mission of UNFPA.

Educational Background:
A relevant advanced degree in social sciences, demography, public health, or a related field is required for this consultancy position. Candidates with additional certifications in survey methodology or quantitative analysis will be preferred.

Experience:
The consultant should have extensive experience, specifically over 10 years, in the field of survey development and quantitative analysis. This experience should include working on projects related to young people's reproductive health and rights, as well as familiarity with the complexities of conducting surveys in diverse cultural and socioeconomic contexts.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the countries involved in the survey would be considered an asset, enhancing communication and understanding of local contexts.
