Job Overview: The Expert WASH position is designed for a highly skilled professional who will lead and manage WASH projects aimed at enhancing water quality, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices in underserved communities. The role requires a deep understanding of WASH principles and practices, as well as the ability to develop and implement project plans that align with the organization's mission. The Expert will be expected to conduct assessments, design interventions, and monitor project outcomes to ensure effectiveness and sustainability. Additionally, the position involves capacity building of local staff and stakeholders, ensuring that the community is engaged and empowered to take ownership of WASH initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of WASH projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and local needs.
Conduct thorough assessments of water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in target communities.
Develop project proposals, budgets, and work plans in collaboration with stakeholders.
Monitor and evaluate project progress, making adjustments as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
Provide technical guidance and support to local teams and partners in WASH-related activities.
Facilitate training sessions and workshops to enhance the capacity of local staff and community members.
Collaborate with other sectors (health, education, etc.) to integrate WASH interventions into broader development programs.
Prepare reports and documentation for donors and stakeholders, showcasing project achievements and lessons learned.
Stay updated on WASH trends, technologies, and best practices to inform project strategies.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in managing WASH projects in developing countries.
Strong knowledge of WASH standards, guidelines, and best practices.
Excellent project management skills, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in WASH or project management are highly desirable.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in WASH programming, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing projects in challenging environments. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable, and knowledge of other languages relevant to the region is a plus.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and based in Madrid, Spain. The contract duration is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
