ATscale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology, was developed to address the significant gap in access to appropriate, high-quality, and affordable assistive technology (AT) globally.   • The ATscale Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization focuses on increasing resources and strategic focus to tackle the global challenge of assistive technology access, particularly for the poor and vulnerable populations.

Job Overview:
The Technical Advisor will be part of the ATscale Advisory Technical Group, which consists of experts from various disciplines relevant to assistive technology. The group provides independent advice on ATscale’s work, including priority setting, annual work plans, country engagements, and global interventions. The incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic and technical advice, assisting in setting priorities, supporting the design and development of technical documents, and participating in evaluations of proposals. The role requires engagement with stakeholders and the ability to provide expert insights on trends and opportunities in the hearing-related assistive technology sector. The position is remote and offers retainer contracts, meaning there is no expectation of a minimum number of working days, and the workload will depend on ATscale's needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide independent advice and feedback on ATscale’s strategic priorities and annual work plans.
  • Assist in identifying gaps and prioritizing areas for intervention.
  • Support the development of technical documents and proposals related to assistive technology initiatives for hearing function.
  • Participate in the evaluation of proposals for their strategic value and technical soundness.
  • Provide expert insights on trends and risks in the hearing-related assistive technology sector.
  • Recommend potential collaborators for AT initiatives.
  • Lead capacity-building activities such as webinars and workshops.
  • Engage in ATscale’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning framework.
  • Participate in virtual meetings with stakeholders to discuss initiatives and provide recommendations. 1
  • Offer individual consultations on topics related to assistive technology for hearing. 1
  • Undertake other related duties as required, including potential travel for in-person meetings.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (Masters or above) in Otorhinolaryngology, Audiology, health or public health, rehabilitation, biomedical science, statistics, or relevant disciplines.
  • A Bachelor's degree in the same fields combined with 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in assistive technology, public health, or ear and hearing care.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical or program implementation of ear and hearing care services in low-resource settings.
  • Proven experience in designing and scaling hearing-related assistive technology solutions.
  • Familiarity with global assistive technology markets and stakeholders, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Understanding of cultural, linguistic, and economic factors influencing assistive technology adoption.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and documentation.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Masters or above) in relevant fields such as Otorhinolaryngology, Audiology, health or public health, rehabilitation, biomedical science, or statistics. A Bachelor's degree in these fields, combined with additional relevant work experience, may also be considered acceptable.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of combined experience in assistive technology, particularly in public health, non-communicable diseases, or ear and hearing care. Experience in low-resource settings and familiarity with disability rights and inclusion in projects is also essential. A strong publication record and experience in international development or humanitarian aid are highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Working knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage.

The contract type is an Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) on a retainer basis, with a contract level of ICS-1
