Job Overview:
As the Southern Africa Managing Director, you will play a pivotal role in driving business growth and operational excellence for PSI's initiatives in Southern Africa. This position requires a blend of strategic leadership, entrepreneurship, and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with the VP of Social Business & Global Operations to identify and develop innovative projects that align with PSI's strategic objectives. Your responsibilities will include managing and expanding the Viya Health initiative in Southern Africa, ensuring that digital innovations and impactful partnerships are at the forefront of business development. You will also oversee the execution of multi-year business plans, manage financial performance, and ensure that the organization remains aligned with its growth objectives. This role is crucial in positioning PSI within the Southern Africa community and requires a strong focus on both profitability and social impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Business Development & Growth: Manage and expand Viya Health in Southern Africa by identifying new product opportunities and impactful partnerships. Develop and execute multi-year business plans, ensuring alignment with strategic growth objectives and managing financial performance and P&L.
  • Strategy & Execution: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a cohesive digital ecosystem for Viya Health, ensuring data and consumer insights drive strategic decision-making. Oversee customer acquisition, retention, and engagement strategies across all channels.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Representation: Position PSI within the Southern Africa community by managing partnerships and seeking funding. Represent Viya Health to investors and stakeholders, balancing profitability with social impact.
  • Operational Efficiency & Governance: Develop efficient systems for timely delivery and quality programming, ensuring adherence to standards and policies.
  • People Management: Create a people management strategy to build a high-performing team, manage team members, and foster a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Performance Measurement & Reporting: Monitor and report on KPIs for Viya Health, optimizing plans to improve business outcomes.
  • Knowledge Management: Implement strategies for capturing and sharing organizational knowledge to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Delivering Financial Commitments: Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, conduct financial reviews, and establish budget goals aligned with strategy.
  • Institutionalizing a Culture of Compliance: Communicate the importance of compliance and establish financial controls to adhere to internal and external regulations.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: A university degree in Commerce or Marketing is required; a postgraduate qualification (Hons or MBA) is advantageous.
  • Experience: At least 15 years of experience, with a minimum of 5 years managing a P&L. Multi-country management experience is preferred, along with a background in FMCG or Consumer Health.
  • Skills: Cross-functional management experience in operations, sales, marketing, finance, and human resources is essential. Understanding of local legislation and experience managing markets outside of South Africa is strongly recommended.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Commerce or Marketing. A postgraduate qualification, such as an Honours degree or an MBA, is considered advantageous and may enhance the candidate's profile for this senior role.
