In Tanzania, DRC has been active since 2015, implementing emergency response projects in three refugee camps in the Kigoma Region, particularly in response to the Burundi refugee crisis. DRC's integrated projects encompass various sectors such as Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Protection (including Community-Based Protection, Persons with Special Needs, Gender-Based Violence, Child Protection, and Legal assistance), Shelter and Infrastructure, and Economic Recovery.

Job Overview:
The Protection Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all Protection activities in Nduta camp, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, needs-based, and timely protection services. This role involves supervising Protection staff, providing technical and programmatic support, and ensuring the harmonization of tools and strategies across all sites. The Coordinator will work closely with the Protection Manager and Area Manager to finalize and implement the protection strategy, develop advocacy messages based on data-driven evidence, and ensure compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines. The position also entails managing Protection projects in villages and camps across the Kigoma region, representing DRC in relevant sectoral Working Groups, and coordinating with local authorities and implementing partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Coordinator will conduct regular field visits to Protection programme sites and perform various duties, including:
  • Developing the protection program strategy based on funding projections, coordinating and monitoring project activities, and ensuring adherence to sector and donor requirements.
  • Overseeing the protection portfolio, identifying funding and capacity gaps, and holding regular meetings with Protection Team Leaders to address programmatic challenges.
  • Ensuring high-quality sectoral interventions, timely deliverables, and compliance with DRC and donor requirements.
  • Formalizing project-related operational tools and training modules, providing input for donor reports, and managing project budgets.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of partnerships with implementing partners and ensuring a MEAL plan is in place for all Protection projects.
  • Providing technical assistance to Protection teams, developing SOPs, and conducting regular training and capacity-building sessions.
  • Supporting advocacy efforts by finalizing protection monitoring reports and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree relevant to humanitarian work, preferably in Law, Social Science, or Humanitarian Aid. Additionally, candidates must be Tanzanian nationals. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a humanitarian context, with at least 2 years working in an INGO in the field of protection. Knowledge of human rights law and international refugee law is essential.

Educational Background:
A university degree relevant to humanitarian work is required, with a preference for degrees in Law, Social Science, or related fields. Candidates must be Tanzanian nationals to apply for this position.

Experience:
The position requires more than 3 years of experience in a humanitarian context, with a minimum of 2 years specifically in the field of protection within an INGO. Candidates should have a solid understanding of human rights law and international refugee law to effectively navigate the complexities of the role.

Languages:
Good proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili is mandatory. Knowledge of Kirundi is considered an added advantage, enhancing communication with diverse populations in the region.
