Job Overview:
The internship program at the American Heart Association provides college students with hands-on experience in a non-profit health organization. This specific internship is with the SouthWest Marketing Communications Team, where interns will gain real-world experience in communicating the Association's mission to various stakeholders, including the media, partners, and volunteers. Interns will collaborate with different teams within the Marketing and Communications department, enhancing their understanding of strategic marketing and public relations. The internship is designed to enrich both academic and professional resumes while allowing interns to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will assist in developing news releases and press materials, draft a variety of marketing communications materials to promote campaigns and events, and collaborate with the marketing communications team to plan and execute marketing efforts. They will provide ideas to support strategic marketing and public relations initiatives, research potential media collaborators, and assist in managing social media accounts for regional AHA platforms. Additionally, interns will support the team in compiling campaign reports and recaps, ensuring that all communications align with the Association's mission and goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing. Proficiency in AP style writing and experience with social media management are essential. Interns should demonstrate effective communication skills, both one-on-one and in group settings, and be comfortable working with community leaders, volunteers, and staff. The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is crucial, along with intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Canva. A reliable Wi-Fi connection is required, and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing, ideally at the senior or graduate level. This educational background will provide the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the internship role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some experience in social media management and effective communication skills. While specific prior internship experience is not mandated, familiarity with non-profit environments and marketing communications will be beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as all communications and materials will be developed in English. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required for this position.
