Job Overview: The Vice President, Development position is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, specifically located in the Indianapolis office. This role is designed for a dynamic leader who will act as both a player and a coach, focusing on driving corporate revenue through various fundraising campaigns, including Heart Walk, Go Red, Hard Hats, and the Heart & Stroke Ball. The VP will lead a team of five fundraising staff, providing them with the necessary guidance and support to achieve their goals. Duties and Responsibilities: The Vice President, Development will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Directly coaching and supervising five fundraising staff to enhance their performance and effectiveness.
Recruiting and managing executive volunteer leadership to support fundraising initiatives.
Prospecting and securing corporate sponsorships to bolster fundraising efforts.
Developing detailed profiles on top businesses in the area, along with a documented plan to engage them in fundraising activities.
Supporting Development staff in executing event logistics, ensuring adherence to national best practices.
Collaborating closely with the Communications Director to create and manage a promotion and communications plan for events, ensuring maximum visibility and engagement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Vice President, Development position must possess the following qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising, outside sales, or a similar role within a non-profit organization.
At least 3 years of management experience, which may overlap with the fundraising experience requirement.
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to large and small groups, facilitate discussions, and train staff.
Proficiency in analyzing numerical goals and fundraising reports, with the ability to utilize spreadsheet and database analysis effectively.
Willingness to travel locally up to 50%, with reliable transportation required.
Physical capability to lift and move large objects, with the understanding that assistance may be needed for heavier items.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of fundraising and management within a non-profit context, as well as for effectively communicating with various stakeholders.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in fundraising or outside sales, along with at least 3 years of experience in a management role.
