Job Posting Organization: GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) is a German federal enterprise that supports the German government in achieving its objectives in international cooperation for sustainable development. Established in 2011, GIZ operates in over 120 countries worldwide, employing more than 22,000 staff members. The organization focuses on various sectors, including governance, health, education, and environmental protection, working closely with local partners to implement projects that promote sustainable development and improve living conditions.
Job Overview: The Development Worker position is part of the project ‘Prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV)’ implemented by GIZ Rwanda since October 202
This project adopts an integrated approach to combat SGBV by collaborating with Rwandan partners, including the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) and civil society organizations (CSOs) such as Haguruka and Health Development Initiative (HDI). The role primarily focuses on enhancing psychosocial counselling resources and methods, particularly at Haguruka and HDI, and fostering a network of service providers and counsellors for peer supervision and exchange. The successful candidate will contribute to the project’s objectives by assessing existing services, developing training programs, and facilitating stakeholder exchanges to improve the quality of psychosocial support services.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Development Worker will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive capacity assessment of the advisory services and counselling structures within Haguruka and HDI. This includes identifying the development needs of their staff who work directly with clients. Based on the assessment findings, the worker will develop and implement targeted training programs and capacity development measures for the counsellors, focusing on client-centred communication and trauma- and gender-sensitive methodologies. Additionally, the worker will create and link to existing resources such as manuals and handbooks to support the organizations in maintaining a client-centred approach. The role also involves conceptualizing and implementing self-care methods for staff and integrating these into the organizations’ management processes. Furthermore, the Development Worker will analyze the broader network of psychosocial counselling structures for SGBV survivors, identify synergies, and organize exchange meetings among relevant stakeholders. The worker will also facilitate peer exchange processes and contribute to discussions with clients regarding the quality and challenges of psychosocial services.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a professional background in clinical psychology, social work, health, or social sciences. Extensive working experience in mental health and psychosocial support is essential, along with knowledge and experience in applying various counselling approaches and methods, including non-violent and client-centred communication. Experience collaborating with civil society organizations and planning and delivering adult training programs is also required. A strong understanding of organizational development and the ability to create and manage professional networks are crucial. Additionally, candidates should have experience working in multicultural teams and demonstrate resilience and tolerance for ambiguity.
Educational Background: A professional qualification and/or university degree in a relevant field such as psychology, social work, or health sciences is required for this position. Candidates should have a solid educational foundation that supports their understanding of mental health and psychosocial support frameworks.
Experience: The position requires at least two years of professional experience in the field of mental health and psychosocial support. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in relevant roles that demonstrate their ability to contribute effectively to the project’s objectives.
Languages: Business fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Basic knowledge of French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with local partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position with an assignment period from June 1, 2025, to July 31, 202
Candidates must be willing to travel regularly as part of their duties. GIZ encourages applications from individuals holding German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union. The organization does not impose restrictions on life partners and family members accompanying the employee to Rwanda. Applicants should be aware of the country-specific vaccination regulations for entry and work in Rwanda. The actual departure date will depend on visa and entry regulations.
