Job Overview:
The National Senior Lead for Community Health is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, primarily responsible for overseeing the local execution of the CKMH (Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Health) initiative. This position entails managing a team of three Community Health Leads and collaborating with various stakeholders, including local markets and the national Community Impact team. The selected candidate will drive the initiative's goals, ensuring that community strategies are effectively implemented and that the needs of the community are addressed through partnerships with clinical sites. This role is essential for fostering collaboration among community organizations and enhancing the overall impact of the CKMH initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Represent the community team in the CKMH control hub, developing and driving strategies to achieve the initiative's goals.
  • Communicate progress to the broader community health team and keep regional and market leadership informed.
  • Lead the CKMH community team, responsible for hiring, onboarding, and supporting team members.
  • Identify challenges and opportunities for improvement within the team and work collaboratively to address them.
  • Collaborate with development colleagues to ensure funder deliverables are met and all reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Manage the CKMH community budget and operations, collaborating with legal, finance, evaluation, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate with regional and community teams regarding ongoing work and ensure collaboration with regional/local teams and community-based organizations (CBOs).
  • Develop resources, lead or facilitate training, and provide technical assistance to support staff and volunteers in achieving CKMH goals.
  • Participate in the National Community Health team and support activities that advance the mission of the Association.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or equivalent work experience.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in relevant fields.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with demonstrated experience in team management, coalition building, volunteer management, or initiative management.
  • Experience in policy, systems, or environmental change work focused on improving public health and reducing chronic disease.
  • Consulting or advising experience, particularly in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to advocate for strategies and projects to internal audiences and assist colleagues in achieving outcome goals.
  • Capability to strategically guide and implement nationally developed programs in a collaborative business environment.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or a related field is required. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. The role demands a strong foundation in public health principles and practices, as well as an understanding of community health initiatives.

Experience:
Candidates should possess five to eight years of relevant experience, particularly in roles that involve leadership, team management, and community engagement. Experience in public health initiatives, especially those focused on chronic disease prevention and health equity, is highly desirable. The ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team setting is essential.

Languages:

  • The expected pay range for this role is between $110,000 and $120,000, commensurate with experience. The American Heart Association offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as a robust retirement program. Employees are entitled to a minimum of 16 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year, increasing with seniority, along with 12 paid holidays.
