Job Overview:
The position of Volunteer Researcher for Sustainable Energy Influencers is crucial for the Sustainable Energy Hub's communications strategy. The volunteer will be tasked with developing a comprehensive mapping of key influencers, thought leaders, and experts in sustainable energy, particularly focusing on their intersections with policy, governance, finance, digitalization, and health. This role involves extensive research to create a structured database that will facilitate effective outreach and engagement with these influential figures. The volunteer will prioritize LinkedIn as the main platform for tagging and outreach, ensuring that the final output is practical and user-friendly. The role also emphasizes the importance of identifying youth energy influencers from both the Global North and South, promoting balanced representation in energy discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough research to identify key influencers, thought leaders, and authors in the sustainable energy sector across seven thematic areas: energy, energy and policy, governance, finance, SIDS, digitalization (including AI and data), and health.
  • Compile a structured database of approximately 240 individuals, categorizing them by thematic area and UNDP regional bureau (RBA, RBAS, RBAP, RBEC, RBLAC).
  • Identify and map the top 60 youth energy influencers, ensuring a balanced representation from the Global North and South.
  • Ensure that the database includes full names, titles, affiliations, LinkedIn profiles, and other social media handles where available.
  • Propose an efficient tagging system within the Excel file to streamline the process of selecting individuals for mentions in posts.
  • Deliver a final output that is practical, accessible, and immediately useful for engaging with key figures in energy discussions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong research skills with the ability to identify and categorize influential figures in the sustainable energy sector.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn, and their use for professional networking.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage and structure a comprehensive database.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards in research and documentation.

Educational Background:
A background in environmental studies, energy policy, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong understanding of sustainable energy issues and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders in the field.

Experience:
While prior experience in research or database management is beneficial, it is not mandatory.
