Job Overview:
The Analyst position at UNDP involves contributing to the preparation of knowledge products and MSME Trade Facilitation Programmes, as well as supporting the implementation of projects funded by partners. The role is crucial in guiding and supporting the implementation of youth and women-led interventions under the UNDP AfCFTA regional projects. The Analyst will organize and lead capacity-building sessions for youth and women-led MSMEs, engage with the private sector on trade and investment strategies, and provide technical support to UNDP country offices in areas such as private sector development, trade facilitation, and digitalization. Additionally, the Analyst will contribute to research materials and opinion pieces on regional integration in Africa, respond to ad hoc requests related to economic and trade integration, and facilitate knowledge sharing and advocacy relevant to the project. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the UNDP Regional AfCFTA Advisor and will be expected to perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Guide and support the implementation of youth and women-led interventions under the UNDP AfCFTA regional projects, including organizing capacity-building sessions on AfCFTA rules and market opportunities.
  • Engage with the private sector to develop trade and investment strategies and connect MSMEs to larger corporations through programs like the UNDP Supplier Development Programme.
  • Provide technical support to UNDP country offices in private sector development, trade facilitation, investments, and digitalization.
  • Contribute to research outputs of the AfCFTA regional team, identifying data sources and drafting notes on trends in intra-African trade.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests related to economic and trade integration.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building, ensuring contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  • Support the establishment of knowledge platforms for the project and develop resources to share with partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Trade, Economics, Finance, or related fields is required.
  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the mentioned areas, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be considered in lieu of the advanced degree.
  • Applicants with a Master’s degree are not required to have professional work experience; however, those with a Bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level in economic, trade, or finance.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of strategies to support MSMEs at the national or regional level is an asset.
  • Proven understanding of the AfCFTA framework and financing for MSMEs is desired.
  • Previous experience with the United Nations is an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Trade, Economics, Finance, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in these areas, along with two years of qualifying experience, will be considered.

Experience:
The position requires applicants with a Master’s degree to have no prior professional work experience, while those with a Bachelor’s degree must have at least two years of relevant experience in economic, trade, or finance sectors. Experience in supporting MSMEs and a good understanding of the AfCFTA framework are advantageous. Previous work with the United Nations is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
