Job Overview:
The consultancy position is aimed at providing technical support to UNICEF's emergency response strategies in the Amazon region, particularly in addressing the health and nutritional needs of vulnerable communities affected by drought and wildfires. The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to mitigate the impacts of these environmental challenges on child health and nutrition. This includes conducting assessments, promoting healthy dietary practices, and training local health professionals in nutritional surveillance. The role is critical in strengthening local response capacities and ensuring that affected communities receive necessary support to combat the adverse effects of climate change on their health and nutrition.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop a Drought Impact Mitigation Plan for Child Health, tailored to the needs of riverside and Indigenous communities, including resilience strategies and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical support for the training of health professionals, organizing and facilitating training sessions focused on nutritional surveillance and emergency response.
  • Review and validate a Nutrition Guide for children under 2 years, ensuring its practicality and effectiveness in the context of climate change.
  • Conduct a comprehensive health and nutrition surveillance diagnosis for children in priority communities, identifying gaps and needs for targeted interventions.
  • Validate care pathways for malnourished children, ensuring alignment with community needs and drought impacts.
  • Develop a final consolidated report synthesizing all consultancy activities, outcomes, and strategic recommendations for future actions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in organizing and facilitating workshops and training sessions for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work in dynamic environments while maintaining high-quality standards in deliverables.
  • Strong analytical skills and capacity to formulate evidence-based recommendations for health and nutrition programs.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating health programs with a focus on measurable results.
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed technical reports and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of national and international policies related to child health and nutrition.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in public health, nutrition, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in these areas will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in health and nutrition program implementation, particularly in emergency response contexts. Experience working with Indigenous and vulnerable populations is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory. Knowledge of English or Spanish is considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy will involve travel to various locations in the Amazon, with a travel plan including five 5-day trips and potential 3-day boat trips. The financial proposal should include all costs associated with the assignment, including travel and subsistence. The position is a consultancy role and does not confer staff member status under UNICEF's regulations. Selected candidates will undergo background checks and must confirm their vaccination status against COVID-19.
