Job Overview: The Operations Manager serves as a Strategic Business Partner under the guidance of the Head of Office (Representative). This role is accountable for operations functions and is responsible for facilitating change, providing risk-informed, solution-focused analysis, advice, and services. The Operations Manager contributes to program and management decisions aimed at delivering results for children in specific operational contexts. Key functions include developing people resources to promote technical competence, championing strategic resources for organizational goals, enhancing risk management to improve performance, ensuring operational centralization for efficiency, and strengthening internal and external partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies to enhance the technical competence of staff and promote career progression.
Champion the efficient use of resources to achieve organizational goals and ensure Value for Money (VfM).
Enhance risk management practices to improve organizational performance and strengthen internal controls.
Optimize operational structures to maximize efficiency gains.
Strengthen partnerships both internally and externally, leveraging UNICEF’s expertise in financial management across all operational areas.
Provide leadership and guidance to the operations team, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s mission and values.
Monitor and evaluate operational performance, making recommendations for improvements as necessary.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure cohesive and effective operational strategies.
Required Qualifications:
An Advanced University Degree (Master’s or higher) in Business Management, Financial Management, Accounting, Public Finance, or related fields is required.
Alternatively, a full professional accounting designation (CA, ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CPFA, Expert Compatible) from an internationally recognized institute/body of accountancy with valid membership in good standing is required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree (Master’s or higher) in relevant fields such as Business Management, Financial Management, Accounting, Public Finance, or related operations functions. Alternatively, candidates may hold a full professional accounting designation from a recognized accounting body.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required, specifically in implementing organizational initiatives in operations management areas such as budget management, financial reporting, facilities management, administration, supply chain, logistics management, information technology, and human resources. Experience in developing countries and familiarity with emergency contexts is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Additional language skills, particularly in languages relevant to the regions where UNICEF operates, would be considered an asset.
