Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will serve as a Communications Specialist at the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) in Panama City. This role involves translating content from English to Spanish and managing digital communications across web and social media platforms. The volunteer will work closely with the Regional Communications Officer to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information, enhancing UNEP's outreach to Spanish-speaking audiences. The position requires a proactive approach to content management and engagement with stakeholders, contributing to UNEP's mission of promoting environmental awareness and action in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Translate relevant content, including stories, press releases, speeches, and publications from English to Spanish, ensuring timely posting on the UNEP Spanish website.
  • Proofread all content on the Spanish language website to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Review existing Spanish-language sections of the UNEP website to identify areas for revision and improvement.
  • Update and manage content on the UNEP Spanish website to keep it current and relevant.
  • Implement social media strategies tailored for Spanish-speaking audiences, translating content including videos and graphics.
  • Maintain UNEP's Spanish language social media channels, posting timely content and engaging with the audience.
  • Promote UNEP’s initiatives and messages to Spanish-speaking stakeholders through effective communication and outreach activities.
  • Analyze social media statistics and adjust content strategies to maximize audience reach and engagement.
  • Support requests from the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director related to Spanish-language communications and travel. 1
  • Stay informed about technological advancements in digital platforms and translation methods. 1
  • Participate in various Communication Division activities, including training, meetings, and workshops. 1
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong proficiency in both English and Spanish, with excellent translation skills.
  • Experience in digital communications, including web management and social media engagement.
  • Familiarity with environmental issues and sustainable development concepts is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for content creation and management.

Educational Background:
A degree in communications, environmental science, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications in marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing or social media management would be advantageous.

Experience:
Previous experience in communications, particularly in a bilingual environment, is highly desirable. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, especially in environmental contexts, will be considered a plus. Familiarity with social media analytics and content management systems is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Latin American region would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.

This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning the volunteer will need to arrange their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers receive a living allowance to support a basic and safe lifestyle, which varies based on local living costs. All national UN Volunteers in the same location receive the same allowance.
