Job Overview:
The position of Psychologist and Case Worker at IOM involves providing essential psychosocial services to Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) residing in accommodation centers. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Shelter Coordinator, focusing on assessing the mental health of UMC, organizing psychological support sessions, and collaborating with social workers to address the children's needs. The role requires a proactive approach to planning and implementing interventions that promote the well-being and development of the children, ensuring they receive the necessary support to navigate their circumstances. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining individual files for each child, documenting their progress, and facilitating their integration into various activities within and outside the shelter.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct mental health assessments and write psychological evaluations for UMC.
  • Organize and facilitate group and individual psychological support sessions.
  • Coordinate daily activities for UMC, including educational and recreational programs.
  • Collaborate with the social worker to provide psychosocial support addressing issues such as anxiety, conflict management, and coping mechanisms.
  • Map and refer UMC to available mental health and psychosocial services.
  • Implement actions aligned with the Individual Action Plan for each child.
  • Conduct Best Interest Assessments (BIA) in collaboration with the child's Guardian.
  • Maintain and update individual files with comprehensive information on each child's history and needs.
  • Support children during their entry into the Accommodation Center and explain the rules. 1
  • Assist in the integration of children into activities and provide training on safety and abuse prevention. 1
  • Prepare children for their departure from the Accommodation Center. 1
  • Escort children to appointments and distribute necessary supplies as needed. 1
  • Uphold the rules of the Accommodation Center and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Psychology and have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience. A Master's degree in a related field is considered an advantage. Candidates must be licensed psychologists, and registration or chartered membership with the Greek Psychological Association is also advantageous. Strong work ethics, commitment to humanitarian principles, and a willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, are essential.

Educational Background:
A university degree in Psychology is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's degree in a related field. Accreditation from recognized universities listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database is necessary for educational qualifications.

Experience:
At least two years of relevant professional experience is required, preferably in psychosocial support within the migration and refugee context. Experience in emergency psychology is a distinct advantage, as is previous work with children or vulnerable populations. Familiarity with multi-cultural environments is preferred, highlighting the need for sensitivity and adaptability in diverse settings.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and oral, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is considered beneficial, as IOM's official languages include these. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may involve written and oral assessments.
